Kanan Gill is on Netflix! The Perfect Happy Cheerful Thing to Watch Now

Do you like comedy, but don’t like people being mean, talking about sex, or bringing up scary real life stuff? Kanan Gill is the comic for you! I got to see him live because my life is better than yours, and now the same show I saw live has a Netflix special that just released. You should all watch it! It is delightful.

Kanan Gill! I love him! You know that really smart snarky guy who always says the smartest things at parties and makes you laugh until you snort milk out of your nose? That’s Kanan Gill. I first found him thanks to moviemavengal/pardesi sharing his youtube videos about movies with me. Like this one:

That was about 4 years ago, he kept up those videos and added in some “man on the street” interviews, and a few clips of stand-up. And then he got a chance to be in a movie (Noor) where he was super charming and fun, but the movie around him was terrible. And now he has reached the point of a world tour of his stand up.

I saw him and it was WONDERFUL. I saw Vir Das when he was in town, and that was eh. It was in a comedy club, lots of people were there because it was a fun evening out and they could drink and make noise and stuff, and his jokes were slanted for that crowd, a lot of pretty raunchy stuff that is funny if you are a little drunk. Kanan Gill wasn’t like that at all. It was in an actual theater on a stage, no drinking and no noise. And he just talked for an hour and a half and was super smart and super funny. Nothing very raunchy, nothing that you are just laughing at because it is so shocking and not because it is funny, all very light and clever and pleasant.

I feel like such a granny saying this, but isn’t it nice for a young man to be funny without talking about nasty things? It really is! It’s a lot harder to be funny about stuff like dogs and school papers and things than to be funny about masturbation.

But generally, everyone should watch it! Let’s show Netflix that we love Kanan Gill and hopeful happy comedy! What I am saying is, “Down with Vir Das and Hasmukh! Up with Kanan Gill and Happiness!”

    • It really is just a very pleasant mild show. While also being extremely clever.

  1. He came to Chicago??? I’m pretty sure he didn’t come to NYC, though I have met him here when Abish and Naveen performed…or maybe in India, not sure. The comedy “band” consider him the funniest. Have you watched Comicstaan? Its great too!

    • He must have come to NY because it was part of his stand up in Chicago, talking about New York.

He really is good! It’s super hard to be funny without being unpleasant, and he makes it look easy. Little jokes about childhood and aunties and stuff, nothing big or controversial or gross.

        • YES! Okay, we all have to watch Noor. Just because we are all in love with Kanan Gill. Hot skinny and beardless, hot big and bearded.

          • I’ll vote for that! What better reason than to watch a film I haven’t yet seen. Also, it’s on Prime with English subtitles so that part is already covered!

  2. I’m curious how different this version is from the one you saw. You should give us a detailed report like with the SRK Letterman interview.

    • Really not that different. I don’t remember the bit about calling Neha, and he had some audience interaction which I’m guessing they edited out from this show. Otherwise just slightly tighter delivery of jokes and stuff.

Oh, and he cut a whole bit about annual day at school! And learning how to walk in sync. I don’t remember details, but it was funny.

    • Also, he didn’t throw chalk into the audience, and it was more couples and fewer crazed fangirls. Unlike this show which seemed to be 90% crazed fangirls.
