It’s Karan’s birthday! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!! And I thought it would be nice for us to celebrate by saying all the nice things we can think of about him.
I guarantee you have something nice to say about Karan. There is always something nice to say!
I’ll start with an easy one, Karan is a good father.
– He has an eye for iconic and memorable outfits in his movies
– Lovely smile
– Stylish silver fox
– Knows how to make a romance both a fantasy, yet somehow reachable in everyday life and thus realistic

Yes, Silver Fox!!!! Now I am kicking myself, that should have been my #1 thing I liked.

Thank you KJ,for Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. The best mainstream movie about the perspective difference between generations on matters of love.Thankyou for showing that even love marriages can give a happy, content, settled type of family.
Thank you for My Name is Khan, for showing us the importance of humanity over petty differences. And yes, proving yet again the versatility of SRK.
Thank you for the unique music of Ae Dil Hai Mushqil, with its contemporary tunes coupled with classic lyrics.
And thank you for being one of the few people in India to truly embrace their identity and settle an example for them who suffer a chronic existential crisis in this misogynist, patriarchal, chauvinistic society that values virility over valour.

Thank you Karan, for really starting so many unique things in Bollywood. From a gossipy talk show to non-love story movies to representation of so many identities, you’ve done a lot.

He has started so much, I think it’s impossible to even keep track of it all. How could one person start Koffee With Karan, and also produce and release The Lunchbox, and give Bahubali an all India release too?

Yes! I think he is one of the few public figures in film (along with maybe Farah Khan) who unabashedly loves Indian film.

I think for much of the German audience, Karan’s movies are the epitome of Bollywood. He’s a BIG deal.
On a personal level, Karan is the only Indian celebrity that I have seen live and felt truly star-struck. And I have gushed to Kunal Kohli about his MDK medley, danced in the front row of a Sonu Nigam concert and got a personal answer from SRK at a video press conference. And then there was the German premiere of KANK, we were waiting at the red carpet, and when I caught the first glimpse of Karan’s hair, my heart started to flutter, I went rigid and could only watch in awe.

Exactly what I’ve seen in germany…if “Bollywood” is mentioned, the examples used are mostly Karan’s movies, that’s about the standard of what should expect.

Personally, Karan is the only Indian celebrity that I have seen live and that left me actually star-struck. I wish he knew that! He has so many insecurities, but celebrity appearance is definitely one of them.

He will always have a special place in my heart just for making KKHH! Add to that all the other movies he’s directed, I can honestly say he’s been a part of my life. I may have issues with some of his films, but I always feel something in them. I’m so looking forward to Takht!
This mashup beautifully captures his journey, it’s one of my favorites –

I mentioned in an earlier post how SOTY1 came into my life at exactly the right time I needed it. I’ll always be grateful to Karan for that.
