Pride Day Post! Pick Your Favorite Queer Anthem For Your Imaginary Float!

There are so many great song options for float themes, if you were to be in charge of making a Pride float using a Hindi film song. I’m gonna start us off with 3 songs and you can add on whatever else you can think of, or pick from these three.

The classic, the one that is part of every desi Pride parade ever, “Yeh Dosti”. If I were designing a float for this one, I think I might go with an enormous double sided coin and then people in denim-denim outfits standing on the float.

I don’t know if this was intended as an anthem or not, but it works either way. New day, new hope, good things coming, and so on. “Good Morning”. If I were making a float for this, I would have people wearing towels around their neck and holding toothbrushes and cups, and then in the background just a big sun.

And then we have the newest option. Lyrics are shockingly on the nose, letting your colors fly and all that. Float theme isn’t as fun though. I mean, colors everywhere and stuff is just kind of basic. Sorry, this is my last choice merely because of the lack of concept scope. “Jai Jai Shiv Shankar”

  1. Ye dosti for the fun stuff, but aye mohabbat zindabad sends chills every time I hear it.
I have heard that “pyaar kiya to darna kya” is very popular for many pride parades, just like “Let it go”(I actually damaged my earphones listening to it on a loop),is this just a coincidence or are these songs really that popular choices?

    • I’ve heard that Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya is popular too. I’ve never actually seen a Hindi film themed Pride float, I am sure there have been some I just missed them.

  2. I was under the impression that “Aap jaisa koi” from Qurbani was a pretty popular song in the LGBT community, at least for parties. A full on disco theme would be fun either way.

  3. I wish people would do more with the other gay classics, like Mera Naam Sabhnam and Diye Jalte Hain from Namak Haram, or those pining songs from Anand. Or there’s a Govinda crossdressing song from the 80s that’s a lot more serious than Aunty no.1

Mera Naam Sabnam needs a whole float of item song drag queens.

    • Just looked it up, and yes! You are correct, that is a true statement!

  4. I mean, my sister watched Jai Jai Shivshankar because she thought the colors made it look like they were at a Pride parade, and for someone who’s so anti foreign film, this is a big win.

    • I think we can take it as a given that the IDEAL Pride Parade float would be Tiger and Hrithik shirtless dancing together to that song for the whole 3 hour parade. But I don’t know if that is practical. Maybe a 3D hologram substitute thing?
