Let’s all have a boost today! Time to talk about little baby early Shahrukh, because that is such a fun thing to talk about.

Before DDLJ, Shahrukh made all kinds of movies of varying quality, which I am sure the True SRKians here have all watched. Of the following list, which is your favorite?

  1. I’ve only seen Chamatkar, so it will have to be Chamatkar! I did enjoy it, though, it was cute and silly on purpose and overall “just right” 🥰

    • Chamatkar is great fun! And if you liked it, you should watch some of the others on this list, a lot of them are like that, silly and fun and inconsequential.

  2. Yes. I have seen them all . Even own DVD’s when there was no other way. I’m sorry now I binged on them so early. Especially now that the out put * even before Corona) had slowed to a standstill. Dee wanna has a specially place. Watching that first half was baffling to a newbie and then there he was….I can watch that scene daily. Mpollak

    • I feel kind of the same way! All these early films are such fun, I would enjoy them even without Shahrukh just for the wacky 90s of it all, but Shahrukh makes it special.

Is Deewana your favorite across the board?

  3. Man, they didn’t put any creative thoughts into making posters then, did they? I’m laughing at Paresh Rawal’s getup and expression, he looks like he’s being taught how to waltz, while Jackie is looking murderous! And why does Rakhee look younger than Kajol and Mamta?

Baazigar and KHKN for me. Best showcases of contrasting Shahrukhs. Baazigar is all nostalgia, the first of his films I remember and what a strong impression he made on me. KHKN is all innocence and earnestness, he’s actually a little baby in this! Also both soundtracks I can listen to even today.

I’ve a soft spot for Chamatkar, another childhood favorite! Haven’t seen Guddu, ZD and Oh Darling…

    • Guddu is odd and bad in that 90s Masala way, Oh Darling is an art film, very metaphorical and symbolic. But Zamaana Deewana is straight up fun!!!! you should check it out.

  4. I really like Zamaana Deewana. Often I can’t pick up on Hindi humor, but this movie was fun and funny, and a bit disturbing, despite the language barrier. I think Baazigar is probably the “best” movie , even though the rest of the world would say it was Darr. And I think Oh Darling Yeh Hai India should be mandatory viewing. SRK is adorable, the plot is bizarre, like really bizarre, and the heroine is a prostitute without much self pity.

    • I will accept Baazigar as the best film. It is entertaining, unpredictable, and fearless.

  5. I really, really love Baazigar! It’s so crazy and brutal but Shahrukh plays such a good Villain (If you can still call him that at the end of the film). Definitley prefer that one over Darr or Karan and Arjun.. I also really enjoy Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Shahrukh is just adorable and so quirky in the role!

    • Baazigar is crazy! Which is maybe why it is so re-watchable? You never get tired, or are able to predict, the wackiness.

  6. After DDLJ many people praised SRK’s pairing with Kajol, but I think that he acts really well with Madhuri.
I liked Anjaam, but mostly because of Madhuri Dixit.
That scene where she lures him to the temple and then attacks him with the trident will always stands out

    • Anjaam is great! we’ve had discussions here about this before, and I think he and Madhuri in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam and Dil To Pagal Hai did not work. It was okay in Devdas, but my favorite Madhuri-SRK pairings are Anjaam and Koyla. I like them when they aren’t playing their standard roles, I think the usual “sweet lover” Shahrukh and “pretty good girl” Madhuri just don’t vibe right. But when he is a stalker and she is out for revenge, or when he is a mute action hero and she is an escaping bride, or any of those, it’s great.

    • Hey, it’s what Shahrukh himself says! Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Swades, the only two movies he admits to being proud of in interviews.
