Wooo, Ranveer! Such a fun dude, and you know he will celebrate his birthday the bestest funnest way, even during lockdown.
Here is where you get to ask me anything you want, if I’ve seen that one movie, what I think about that news story, whatever. Just keep swinging back to this post all week as you think of new things to ask!
Now, question for you, in honor of Ranveer: What is your favorite Ranveer performance?
I’m gonna go with Dil Dhadakne Do! It feels like this vibrant great character, easy performance. But when I think about it, there is really almost nothing there in the character, Ranveer brings it all. What could be a cowardly self-pitying poor little rich boy roll becomes charming and brave and loving, all the little moments of him supporting his sister, selling us on his ridiculous love at first sight, and his frustration with his family, Ranveer pulls it all out in the performance.
My favorite Ranveer performance is Ranveer playing himself! His persona overshadows all of his work, I think, at least for me. He’s a good actor and a great promoter.
Have you seen the Dil Bechara trailer? I haven’t yet, mostly because I hate the online conversations around SSR’s death.

I also really hate the online conversations around SSR’s death. It’s so uncomfortable; people aren’t behaving sensitively.

Agreed. And I appreciate that the conversation has mostly not come onto this blog at all. Makes me feel good about the intelligence of my readers, that they don’t even find it worth mentioning.

Oh yeah, Ranveer playing Ranveer is fascinating. I’m probably going to repost my 101 on him for his birthday, because the disconnect between his education and background and how he presents himself is so stark.

I’ve had the Dil Bechara trailer on loop pretty much since it came out. Sushant absolutely nails the role, but it hurts because it’s his last movie and because I know the Fault in Our Stars really well. I’m really excited for it, but it’s not going to be a happy time.

Favourite Ranveer performance is definitely Ram in Ram-Leela for the pure enjoyability of it with his energy and going through a lot of emotions. The closest that comes to his persona, yet still clearly a character and of course, meeting Deepika in that movie and their sizzling chemistry.

I hate Ram-Leela, but I have to admit Ranveer explodes off the screen in it.

I’ve tried watching Ram-Leela but I can’t get through it. Like with most SLB I’d rather watch the song videos than the films. I wonder why he leaves me so cold?

I have the same reaction. For me, it’s that he is trying too hard to have emotions. It starts to feel fake, like it’s just the appearance of feeling instead of actual feeling.

True!
I watch indian movies for emotions and SLB movies don’t have it (I haven’t seen Khamoshi). All those costumes, jewellery, glitz squash every remaining emotion. Especially Ram-Leela: everything is so beautiful but also so boring, and in the end I was asking myself: what’s the point of this movie?
LikeLike
Yes! Exactly! And you should check out Khamoshi, the lack of budget really makes it something special.

Probably Gully Boy and DDD (not having seen his Bhansali trio).
I have never been able to warm up to his personality. The word that always comes to mind is ‘chhichhora’! The over-the-topness, fanboying over anything and everything persona is exhausting. Wish he would drop the act!
Question – Have you ever seen this and do you have thoughts? (yes, you can judge me!)

I have not seen that before, and my first reaction is that they all look so delightfully cool. I’m jealous!

Yeah well I was laughing so hard at the hilarity of it all, that didn’t strike me! This movie randomly popped up on youtube suggestions, had goofy looking Saif-Akshay on the screenshot and my mind instantly went to Main Khiladi Tu Anari! I watched this and another one called Tu Chor Main Sipahi with them, hoping to see that glorious chemistry. While both had those moments and other crazy 90s stuff (like Saif performing a dance routine in a mask before looting a safe), they didn’t match up to Main Khiladi Tu Anari.

I have seen only Main Khiladi Tu Anari, so glad to hear I started at the top and I don’t have to bother with the others 🙂

To answer your question, I think I would go with Ram Leela. Something about Ranveer just jumps out.
Are you planning on reviewing Rasbhari?

At some point I might review it, but I am in no hurry.

May I ask why? I am genuinely curious.

Because I have a life? Reviewing a streaming show is a massive time commitment. I’ve got other stuff I’d rather be doing right now.

Fair enough. Thank you for answering.

I haven’t seen Gully Boy, which might change things, but at the moment my favorite role is still Lootera. Really nice restrained role.
My question: if I click on an ad on your page and buy something, do you get money? Enough money that it’s worth me refreshing the page until I get the ad for the thing I was going to buy anyway?
LikeLike
I don’t get any part of the purchase, I do get something for you clicking, but that something is 0.001 of a cent. I average 100,000 views a month and $15 in ad revenue, so really don’t worry about it, nothing one person can do will even add up to one penny for me.
Also, you really should see Gully Boy! Not as much as you should see Bulbbul, but at least a little bit.

Padmaavat. i realise no-one here will agree with me, but I love 1. pantomime villains and 2. sexually ambiguous guys with loads of hair and eyeliner so you could say that role was engineered to appeal specifically to me.

lol you should watch the movie my username is from. The bad guy in that is basically the exact same character except with more singing and leggings.

I just adore Ram Leela. His best look, such fire in his performance, his best chemistry with Deepika, and it’s the only SLB movie I thoroughly enjoyed.

Did you hear about this upcoming movie Yaara with Vidyut Jammwal and Amit Sadh? At first it blown my mind they are in a movie together and I was like 100% must watch. But then I saw the poster and realized it will be a movie about men who are in a gang and will be doing boring things like crime and stuff and I was so disappointed! On the top of that it will be released on Zee5, my worst enemy and the only woman I saw in the cast is Shruthi Hasan, your enemy. I’m asking WHY? somebody had this brillant idea of casting Vidyut and Amit (and also Vijay Varma, I know he has fans here) and then did all things wrong. Cast those two in a romantic movie for God’s sake!

And it’s period 70s with the shaggy hair! It’s like everything women want but no one realizes they want all in one place. And also, Shruti haasan.

BTW I read June will be Amit Sadh’s month because he will have 4 releases: Breathe 2, Shakuntala Devi, Yaara and Avrodh. So crime series, a biopic, gang movie and war film. I’m happy for him.

I’m happy too! And I forgot about Breathe releasing this weekend, I can’t decide if I want to bother rushing to see it or not. It would be really trick to do at the moment (bad internet service right now, for instance). But I do love Amit Sadh!
