What Should We Watch on Friday? Sridevi Movie, Shahrukh Movie, Saaho, Love Aaj Kal 2020?

Or none of the above! I know the flavor of the movie I want to watch on Friday, I want one that tastes like silliness and sunshine, and that kind of free feeling of walking down the street and smiling and smelling the asphalt and hearing the traffic go by and swinging your purse. But I don’t know what movie that is.

Sridevi Movie

It’s her birthday this week, and English/Vinglish feels very swinging your purse. But on the other hand, are all Sridevi movies sad now? Also, is English/Vinglish silly enough?

There’s also Mom, which is empowering and striding down the street-y, and I find revenge movies very sunshine-y, but maybe not everyone feels that way.

Shahrukh Movie

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, great coats, great fall weather, great early 2000s city scapes and freedom. “Mitwa” is pretty much exactly the feeling. But it isn’t like that straight through. Maybe a bit too angsty to taste like silliness? Or is it too silly to be truly angsty?

Mohabettein, more fall weather and sunshine and stuff. Definitely silly. But is it swinging your purse, or is it dragging a ten pound back of groceries as you slog your way home.

Saaho

Definitely has the silliness. It’s not technically a purse swinging freedom feeling movie, but I had such a spectacularly great time going to the theater opening night with my friend Dina that for me, it is. But is there enough sunshine?

Love Aaj Kal 2020

Sunshine, purse swinging, freedom, cities, future, happiness, all of that! But also, half of you hated it, so that kind of brings me down.

You see???? It’s really hard! You pick one!

  1. Heads up, this Friday might be my last watch a long, on Fridays at least. School is starting, Distance Learning, and in trying to create pods for my three different children with their different grades and different friends I will most likely be working with additional children on Fridays. And on that note, no pressure or anything, but PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME WATCH KANK! Or Mom. I’ve never seen English Vinglish, so that’s my first choice. Saaho is my second.

    • Oh this is a tragedy! I want to write to your school district and make them split the pods up again to work around Fridays.

More practically, if just moving our watch a few hours in either direction would help, I can do that too. I get off work at 1pm Central (11am your time) and have nothing else to do but Watchalong, so any old time works for me.

I will release you from KANK and Mom, and move English/Vinglish and Saaho higher up the list.

  2. Today’s Sunil Shetty birthday so maybe something with him? But you have seen A Gentelman recently if I remember well.
Main hoon na? I don’t remember if you have done this.
Sunil also has a cameo in Welcome in New York. I think the movie is not good but maybe it fits in what you are searching for, and also has our new groom Rana.

    • Oh yes! I wanted to do A Gentleman, because it is Sunil and Jackie’s birthday, but we just did it.

However I totally forgot about Main Hoon Na! That is an excellent happiness choice.

    • I second Main Hoon Na. I also submit Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani – all happiness and sunshine flicks IMO. Also Chennai Express, had its anniversary too. For Sridevi – Mr. India, it’s mostly happy, except for a small part in between.

      • Ooooo! Main Hoon Na and Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na are my FAVORITES!!! And I think Genelia also had a birthday recently? Oh man, that is so tempting!

Okay, personal top choices now are Saaho (it’s just so dumb), Main Hoon Na, and Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na
