Friday WatchAlong: Ohm Shanthi Oshaana! Right Here, Starting at 3pm Chicago Time

Yaaaaay! One of my favorite movies! So even if people can’t show up, because of stupid jobs and school and things, I will have fun watching it by myself.

Ohm Shanthi Oshaana! Available on youtube, googleplay, and einthusan. Well worth the money to rent, or even buy.

At 3pm Chicago time I will start off the comments, and then we will keep going back and forth for the whole movie, right here.

  1. Yaaaay! Pretty clothes! Also, the subtitles have failed us, what is happening is that she is asking his Mom for help with her poetry homework because she is SMART and remembered that her auntie said Giri’s Mom used to write poetry.

    • To show her general grumpiness and non-traditional heroine attitude. Instead of being the saintly sacrificial heroine who loves children, she is the jealous petty one who yells at babies.

  3. Community wedding: shared cost for a big fun wedding and starting out the young couples, so the poorer couples of the community can still have a nice wedding. Everyone donates money so the brides get pretty saris and there is a big food and stuff. It sounds nice.

  4. Srilakshmi, the bride, is the young woman who was at the bus stop and later did some mending for the heroine. So slightly old to be unmarried, and one of the poorer families if she has to do sewing to make extra money. A kind thing to marry Giri to her, and a nice girl, a perfectly reasonable decision on his mother’s part.

  5. The wine! The wine that was made back in her senior year of high school and was supposed to mature and be ready just now! But instead it is broken and lost, so sad

  6. HA! Giri was in love with Sreelakshmi the whole time! That’s why he kept having money making schemes, and why she remained unmarried so long!

  7. She’s right to insist it’s his turn to speak now, but I am a little worried she is shooting herself in the foot. What if neither of them ever speak?
