It’s Rakesh Roshan’s birthday, yaaaaaaaaaaaay! He made some fun movies, and some bad movies, but overall I am glad he is around.
Rakesh Roshan! Son of a film composer who died when he was very young, Rakesh went out and found work to support his family at age 21. He started as just sort of a miscellanous in the film industry, assistant director, occasional actor, whatever he could turn his hand to. And then he married the daughter of a producer and started working with his father-in-law, eventually finding his place in the industry as a successful producer/director. His most successful production of course is his son Hrithik Roshan, but some of his films have been pretty fun too!
King Uncle, an unauthorized remake of Little Orphan Annie starting Jackie Shroff as Daddy Warbucks and Shahrukh as his estranged younger brother who Annie helps bring together again.
Karan-Arjun, one of Shahrukh and Salman’s rare co-starrers, which featured multiple excellent songs:
Koyla, my favorite Shahrukh-Madhuri movie
Kaho Na Pyar Hai, of course
And finally, Koi Mil Gaya (because it is his birthday and I am politely pretending the Krrish films don’t exist)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAKESH!!!!!
I think my favorite of all your movies is Koyla. And my favorite of all your songs from all your movies is “Ek Pal Ka Jeena” because I’m basic.
