Saturday Small Talk: Chat Away While I Get An Elliptical Delivered!

Happy Saturday! I feel like such a cliche, because everyone is doing this, but I bought myself a home gym equipment thing. Laying around with my foot up for a month really made me want to be more active, and we are heading into winter in Chicago when being active outside will be harder and harder. So I took the plunge and bought myself an elliptical, which is supposed to be delivered at some point in a 4 hour window, and I am going to force the nice delivery man to carry it up 3 flights of stairs for me.

Things to talk about!

Bunty Aur Babli 2! Apparently has finished filming! I didn’t even realize they had started. I guess that’s the YRF difference. They don’t like to promote stuff out of their control, no social media pics during filming and things. And they have that whole massive studio set up, so they can control totally most of filming so that we don’t even realize it is happening.

Shahrukh is watching Cricket and taking Selfies!

I don’t think any of us care about Cricket, so this isn’t a biggie, except that any new SRK photo is a biggie.

Anil Kapoor posted a new ad for Spotify in which he makes us all want him to be our Dad

And Arjun Kapoor and Malaika both tested positive for COVID essentially confirming they are quarantining together. HOW IS THIS NOT A BIGGER STORY????? Do people just not care about love that breaks all rules of age and society any more?

Arjun Kapoor and Malaika Arora to exchange vows in a Christian wedding this April?

Okay, that’s all I’ve got! You chat away while I decide if I should tip the delivery guy or not. Probably wait and see how grumpy he is about all my stairs.

  1. The media coverage of Arjun and Malaika is always problematic.Like, all those ugly rumours that don’t bring in just a bad idea of their relationship. Those are all fabricated stories and people believe them. And even though I don’t think relationships with an age difference are good, the way people perceive it as okay if the girl is younger is disgusting.Hope they get well soon(from covid,I mean)

    • I wondered about that. My understanding was that they fell in love and started dating after Malaika was separated and Arjun was long broken up with her sister-in-law Arpita. So it was/is an unusual relationship in a way that makes me like them and believe that they feel something for each other that inspired them to be a little unconventional. But not “wrong”. However, I have also heard rumors that he broke up her marriage, she broke up his age-appropriate relationship, etc. Which does seem meanspirited, instead of assuming they are two people who knew each other for a long time and started a relationship when they were both single.

    • Too late! I didn’t! And it was real easy anyway, there were two of them and I let them in the backdoor so they could carry it right up easy peasy.

  2. Haven’t been here in some time! Hope you had a wonderful celebration of your grandfather’s birthday!

I had the same reaction to the BB2 news. Surely they weren’t filming during the past few months, it must all have been done before that!

I think I mentioned a while back about Mr. Wrong, the Turkish series I’m watching. Couple weeks ago I discovered English-speaking audiences and fans from around the world who have formed fan groups on facebook, and there are live watchalongs and multiple podcasts by American fans on each episode! Needless to say, I am so happy to have found the community who share this common love. Lately I’ve just been bingeing on the podcasts and other content. On top of that, the show keeps getting better and is just what I needed in the midst of this pandemic. It’s hard to get romcoms right, and very few deliver on both comedy and romance. This one’s right up there for me, where the comedy is gold and the romance is ufff so hot!

    • I saw one thing that said they completed filming at YRF under COVID restrictions. If there is any studio I trust to have the resources and organization for quarantine filming in India, it is definitely YRF. I bet they even provided masks with YRF corporate branding.

So glad you found an internet community for your obsession! Especially since you aren’t having much luck getting the rest of us here to join you.

      • With you on this!

Well, and I say this sincerely, it’s people’s loss! Especially because I think most folks here are exactly the ones who’d enjoy Turkish shows in general.

Random cool thing – Can Yaman (lead of Mr. Wrong, my introduction to Turkish shows and current crush) and Karan Johar started following each on instagram a few months ago. This caused quite a stir in the overlapping community of Indian film and Turkish show fans. Who knows what it means, but I did not expect my two separate worlds to collide like that!

        • Definitely don’t watch Turkish TV, but I felt the same way about worlds colliding when Nick Jonas started dating Priyanka and posting about Bollywood music. So strange.

    • Kainaat! You were the Turkish show fan, I couldn’t remember. Did you see the news that Turkey (along with Egypt) is one of the next markets Netflix is targeting for original content? That might push me over into trying Turkish shows, I confess part of the reason I haven’t yet is that YouTube is dominated by the kids in my household and I never got used to the idea of watching a whole series there.

      • Yup, saw the news in one of the groups, good to know, they have great talent! Most of my favorite shows are written by women and I’d like to see if they get to create something. There are already quite a few Turkish shows and movies on Netflix, though I haven’t seen them. You won’t find English subtitled episodes on youtube, you have to go to one of the dedicated sites.

It’s funny coz right now there’s a group discussion going on about how if Mr. Wrong were on Netflix, we would get to see more steamy stuff because due to Turkish tv censorship, there’s a limit on intimacy shown on tv. Often though the makers release uncut scenes on social where they actually go much further, so it’s like the cast & crew flipping off the censors, much to our delight. Though it’s nowhere near the level of American content (nobody wants that), they do such a good job of buildup and chemistry that we just want more!

  3. Also Aftab Shivdasani is Covid positive. I’m worried about his family because he has 1 month old daughter and I really hope she and the mother are safe.

    • Oh dear, I forgot about that. Or maybe didn’t know? Anyway, I saw the news and filtered it out as “young healthy I’m not too worried”. and now I’m worried!

  4. Oooh what kind of elliptical did you get? Once you have had a chance to use it, please let me know how you like it. My sister just bought a treadmill and loves it but I am still not ready to take the plunge. Also, yes, please tip the poor guy, even if he is grumpy – even if it is just so you don’t feel guilty afterwards.

    • I got a Schwinn! Very good Amazon reviews, both for assembly and ultimate use. Plus, I like the Schwinn brand, because they used to be Chicago based. I will definitely let you know, no idea when I will actually assemble it, the box looks very intimidating.

  5. There was a tiff about it when they first got together, now it’s all resolved as it should be.

I watched Monsoon Wedding which was fine, I don’t think I liked it as much as everyone else seems to, but oh well. Trying to decide what to watch next.

    • Loins of Punjab! So long as you are doing IndoWestern movies. Loins of Punjab! I think it is illegally on Daily motion in a pretty good print.

    • I am the same way! Monsoon Wedding just didn’t do it for it. I watched it again after Margaret’s review to see if I would like it more this time around, and while I can appreciate parts of it, it just isn’t for me. But I did love Loins of Punjab.

      • Loins of Punjab is better, I’m about halfway. I don’t think it’s going to be one of my favourites but it’s got some pretty good satire. Neither really has characters I can really latch on to which I think is what is keeping me from REALLY liking them.

  6. What do we think about the fact that SRK seems to actually be staying in his house, or at least is only posting pictures from his house? Surely he has the means to go fly privately to a cricket match or anywhere else if he really wanted to. Solidarity with the masses? He’s secretly filming something in Mumbai and commuting from home? He genuinely just wants to stay home and hang out with his family?

      • He also referenced something in a fan interaction, ages ago, about hus sister maybe getting cancer treatments. She is living with them and her age and cancer recovery would make her high risk

    • Nope! I suppose I will end up writing a short thing, maybe reposting a review, but nothing “planned”
