Well, this is a very impractical choice. It will only work if you all swear to watch on Einthusan and nowhere else. But you say you will, so fine! We’ll try it!
Trishul
Brilliant Yash Chopra directed, Salim-Javed written, Shashitabh and Hema and Raakhee starring, movie. Problem is, there are loads of slightly different prints floating around, and for a watchalong, we all have to watch the same print or else our comments will make no sense.
So, at 3pm Chicago time tomorrow, we will go to Einthusan together and hit “play”. Only on einthusan! No other version!
Oh, an einthusan is sometimes touchy about starting and stopping in the middle, so I recommend downloading the whole film in advance.
On the other hand, if you are one of those people who reads the comments later, doesn’t really matter. It’s not like the different versions have different endings or something, they are just a few minutes off in a way that makes a watchalong hard but doesn’t really matter. It’s not a Sholay situation.
Whooooo 70s homoeroticism and horrifying interior design and Amitabh’s choker!

Yes! And you better be there, at least for the first hour or so, since you are the one who pushed for it!

Wait, am I? I thought this was an effort by the people. Don’t worry though. I know this movie by heart and I loooove making fun of it.

I feel like I contributed to the push also. I am so excited about this!!! Also, I didn’t want to say this yesterday in case Chandni was picked. But everything I think of that movie now, I think of this tweet from Meenakshi Seshadri:

I mean, that’s kind of Yashji’s fault for casting two old men opposite Sridevi. But still sad!
Trishul, Amitabh and Hema and Raakhee and even Poonam Dhillon (she’s in this, right?). Oh, and Waheedaji! Everyone lives forever and ever! (except Shashi and Sanjeev)

It was just such a weird tweet. And I guess just something that I would not post. But to each her own.
Anyways, yes, Poonam Dhillon is Babli the sister. Also, have you seen Vijay? I just rewatched it yesterday in preparation of Trishul and holy smokes, there is A LOT kissing/making out in that movie. How did I not remember that?!?!

I have not seen Vijay! Thank goodness, I still have some Yashji films left to enjoy. Haven’t seen Daag either (to my shame).

Oh can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Vijay if or when you get around to watching it. It was inspired by/supposed to pay homage to Trishul. Definitely not as good (I mean nothing can be) but very entertaining. Also lots of kissing. Anil and Meenakshi are full on making out.
I have not seen Daag either. I just don’t know if I would enjoy it.

It’s really the mustache that keeps me away. I don’t want Rajesh Khanna in a mustache.

I didn’t want to watch Rab Ne Bana for the same reason! What a tragedy that would have been!

A fine choice with all those wonderful people involved…I’m looking forward to the comments. However, as Yashji was so much involved in shaping ShahRukhs career…well…I can do my own celebration on Sunday 😉
