I’m doing the countdown and reposting the reviews of every film, and writing new reviews of the few I have missed. But what movies do you want me to take a fresh look at? Ones I’ve already reviewed in the past but you are eager to talk about more, and differently? Yes, I will write a 5th (6th? 4th?) review of JHMS if you want.
You know me, I always have lots of things to say about things. So if you have a favorite Shahrukh movie, and I already wrote things about it, but you would like me to write more, tell me here! I’ll read my old review and come up with totally new stuff to say in a totally new way.
And then you can say new stuff in response to my new stuff, and we can have a whole new conversation, and find whole new happiness.

I think Swades might be interesting. On IMDb it’s his highest rated film. He has such a vast filmography so I found Swades to be an interesting number 1 choice. IMDb isn’t exactly one of those sites where really dramatic films intended to have some social are always take the top spot.

The first Indian film I saw was Chak de India. It changed my life. SRK was midway between the dimpled cutie of his earlier movies and the six-pack hunk of Happy New Year. Don’t think I read your review if there is one. Would like to.

I’d love to see another DDLJ post, but other than that, I think it would be interesting to see you re-review KANK. I know Shahrukh has said that role was the death of his romantic hero persona or something, but it is such an interesting movie to me, specifically because of how polarising it is. I see people say they hate it because it ‘promotes/glorifies infidelity’ and while I see that perspective, that wasn’t what I took away from the film myself lol.

Oh I should re-review it! There is so much there, you could even write about it purely from the perspective of disability, Shahrukh’s limp and Rani’s infertility and how the traditional marriage structure is not made to accept either of them.

Yes! Especially how inferior Shahrukh feels because he’s not the breadwinner. One of my favourite scenes in the film (after the train station confession) is the argument Shahrukh and Preity have right before it, after their anniversary dinner. It’s so intense and you can see how both these people know EXACTLY what to say to hurt each other the most. When he says ‘yes, i’m a failure, but you know what’s more of a failure than me in this house? Our relationship. Our marriage. Thank you for letting me stay in your house, Rhea’.
idk I love Preity’s character and she absolutely DOES NOT deserve what Shahrukh does to her but at the same time, his character is so fascinating?
In this scene I mentioned, he gets this expression when she calls him a failure where he’s crying but sort of laughing to himself and I think in that moment you see him realise that they really can’t save their marriage. Anyway I’m rambling i just have many Thoughts about this movie lol

Yes! What does it say about the couples that Rani is infertile and Shahrukh isn’t the breadwinner and thus the marriages fall apart? They don’t have the strength to survive as two individuals who love each other, they need those social roles around them as glue to keep the marriage going.

I’d second Swades and Chak De India. Om Shanti Om would be a fun one to spend more time with, the world being what it is, and things getting as crazy as they have in the film industry for reasons unrelated to actual films.
(Was going to say Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi too, also for happiness reasons, but did a search and you’ve covered that one way more.)
