Upcoming Movies! Bob Biswas Finishes Filming, Shyam Singha Roy Starts, and Aayush Sharma Again (sigh)

Woooo, movies! Not actually releasing, but at least being made! I am excited. Also, we get to talk smack about Aayush Sharma, which is one of my favorite things.

Bob Biswas Finishes Shooting

Red Chillies Production! So I know you are all excited. And also, if you are like me, puzzled. “Bob Biswas” was a fussy assassin character in Kahaani who did not make it out of the film alive. And now this movie is starring Abhishek Bachchan. So, is it just picking up the character name and nothing else? Is it a prequel somehow? Is it going to expand on the “Bob Biswas” storyline in someway?

I guess we will find out soon because they have finished filming!

Shyam Singha Roy Starts Filming

I know nothing about this movie except that it has Nani and Sai Pallavi and I love Nani and Sai Pallavi. Tell me more! If you know more!

Salman Announces New Film with Brother-in-Law Aayush Sharma

Aayush Sharma! Famous for making us go “wait, does his face just not move?” And also for marrying Salman Khan’s little sister and giving her two beautiful babies. Anyway, this is now his THIRD Salman Khan produced starring role. And this time, to make it really really work, Salman is gonna be in the movie too. I kind of like Salman’s look from the teaser, but I don’t know if anything will get me to watch an Aayush Sharma movie.

  1. I saw this Sai Pallavi-Nani movie announcement today and thought “I wish Margaret wrote a post about this and other upcoming movies” and here it is 🙂

Bob Biswas doesn’t interest me much for now.
From Salman-Aayush movie I’m interested only in the trailer: Will Aayush’s face be able to emote a little? How will his hair be? I definitely won’t watch the movie because I suffered enough during Loveyatri.
Sai Pallavi-Nani movie: Super excited. MCA wasn’t good, but I loved their love story and chemistry. (btw a new tamil anthology is coming to Netflix this day and I discovered Sai is in one of the movies. Now I must watch it, even if I didn’t plan it).

The other super exciting telugu movie started shooting these days: Maha Samudram with Sharwanand, Aditi Rao and our favourite southern Sidharth. Can’t wait.

    • Aayush trailers are such a strange experience. It’s like watching the poster come to life, like you are just seeing the frozen grinning image being jerked around and moved through sets. I am VERY curious if Salman will manage to get some life out of him! Salman is so dynamic onscreen (usually, sometimes he just feels drunk).

I really really hope the Nani-Sai Pallavi movie is a romance and not just another action film where she is the love interest! Although the fact that there is a second hero makes me nervous.

YES! Southern Sid in not-a-horror-movie!!!! Like Prithviraj, he seems to have gotten all swept up in horror and lost interest in other stuff lately.

      • I hate horrors. And aren’t they all the same: or about a haunted haveli or about a woman who revenges something. One horror in a filmography is enough, why Sid and Pritviraj make so many?

        • Yes! It’s so boring! And usually the special effects are the stars more than the stars. I want to go to a movie to see Southern Sid, not see a bunch of spooky effects.

    • I am not sure how I feel about MahaSamudram. Many people passed over this script before it landed in these actors. The director’s first film RX100 was a big hit but I hated that movie. He was an assistant director to RGV.
The Netflix Tamil anthology is all grim and depressing in the trailer. I want happy movies for the holidays.

          • We’ve done a few. You missed “I” a couple weeks back, and I know we did Ohm Shaanti Oshaana too.

This month is All Christmas, if you can suggest a non-Hindi Indian movie with a Christmas scene, it might be put on the schedule.

      • I didn’t know the script was declined by many people. Interesting. But I’m still positive about MahaSamudram because I like a lot all three leads and I liked RX100. It was gripping, sexy, had beautiful music and I didn’t need 50 sittings to finish it.

I didn’t plan watching Tamil anthology, but I saw the trailer by chance and was like: wait, wait, isn’t it Sai Pallavi there? Damn, now I will have to watch it to complete her filmography.

  2. Check AK VS AK .
It looks fab with anurag kashyap and anil Kapoor pitted against each other in a mockumentary kinda format.
Vikramaditya motwane has seldom gone wrong ,so I m super excited for this one.

  3. Feel the same as you and Angie about Sai and Nani. I really like Nani and I liked them together (and Sai’s character in MCA was fun and more fleshed out than your average heroine) but I feel like Nani movies can end up as a bait and switch. They have interesting, boundary-pushing roles for women, but then the narrative always drops back into the mold of the patriarchy somewhere in the second half, where Nani saves the heroine and the world by being the strongest, fightingest man and beating the bad guys into submission.

Need more information about Bob Biswas. Very wary of Salman movies after Jai Ho.

    • Stay wary of Salman! For every pretty good Prem Ratan Dhan Payo or very good Bajrangi Bhaijaan, he puts in some real stinkers.

  4. Did you see the paparazzi pics of Abhishek filming Bob Biswas? He looked surprisingly good except that he looked so tall and huge. He can’t help his height but I don’t remember the Bob Biswas character looking so hulking and imposing. He was supposed to be able to blend into the background.

    • I have to think that they wouldn’t cast Abhishek if they wanted Bob Biswas to stay the same. Abhishek is such a big name, and such a big person (literally). My theory is that “Bob Biswas” will turn out to be a code name used by many people, so Abhishek’s character will be totally new.

  5. Totally off topic – have you seen the photo of Saif and Kareena’s son, Taimur, with his little cousin? Here it is – the little Ali Khan certainly takes after his dad! And his cousin, Inaaya, is too cute.

    • Oh my gosh! They are like little dolls! There was rumor that someone was making a Taimur doll a few years back and I would have totally done it.

  6. Not much info other than movie is set in Kolkata for Shyam Singha Roy. Director made Taxiwala a horror/thriller kind of movie starring Vijay devarakonda. It is a decent watch but I am not big on thriller type movies so many be it is actually a good movie.

Nani launched another movie recently, which I am very excited about. Directed by Vivek athreya (Brochevaruevarura) and starring nazriya Nazim. That is a combination to look forward to. Announcement teaser-https://youtu.be/2xEcqisu0B4

  7. DC-MCU is not my jam,but kinda excited about Ms Marvel Kamala Khan.Never Have I Ever was embarrassingly cliched, showcasing festivals as some sort of coming of age events(no,they are not)and mocking disability with the excuse of ‘hey, she is a confused Desi’.
One HUGE gripe though-Americans pronouncing it as Cum-Ah-Lah,much like that of Harris(who is Cum-Lah,middle ‘a’ is redundant, and means ‘she of the lotus’in Sanskrit).I thought they derived her name from Urdu ‘kamaal'(wonder, miracle)but that would make her Cum-AA-Lah,and Iman(the actress)doesn’t emphasise on ‘AA’ at all, pronouncing it the American way.I hope that the writers didn’t just hear ‘Kamala'(the Harris variety)was a common name in South Asia and went with it,notwithstanding the religious connotations,or at least had some explanation like ‘cultural syncretism’.

    • Here’s the writer talking about where she came up with the name Kamala.

I’m excited Kamala Khan gets a series! I want all good things for that character, the comic books are so good.

      • Thanks! I remembered that the author was Muslim, so I figured there had to be an explanation. A made up version of “Kamal” makes total sense. And very traditional sort of Superhero thing, some slightly unusual name that no doubt has a specific backstory behind it the comics will make canon at some point.

  8. We forgot to mention this movie:

Absolutely not my genre, but can we talk about the second poster? At the first sight I was 100% sure it’s Janhvi and Sunny Deol. Then I realized it’s Arjun Rampal and Janhvi, and at the third sight I saw Janhvi is not mentioned in the hashtags so it’s not her. But doesn’t this actress look just like her?

    Like

    • Yes! To all you said!

And also what jumped out at me, what the heck does “Genre of Equality” mean at the top of the posters?

      • At the battle of Bhima Koregaon during the Third Anglo Maratha War the Mahar soldiers defeated the Marathas.Mahars are a community that had previously been considered untouchables, and hence the victory was considered a significant event as a symbol of Dalit pride.
