Discussion Post: Which of these 3 Unknowns is More Stressful?

This came to me as I was making myself dinner last night, and I thought it might be a good general DCIB discussion question. I have THOUGHTS, surely you do as well!

  1. Not knowing if your eggs are successfully softboiled or if you under or over cooked them until you have cracked them open.
  2. Not knowing if that noise woke the baby.
  3. Not knowing if your friend enjoyed the movie you just showed them

For me, it’s definitely the eggs. If the noise woke the baby but the baby doesn’t cry, who cares? Let the baby be awake and silent! If my friend didn’t enjoy the movie, I can just talk at them until I convince them they enjoyed it.

But the eggs, that is STRESSFUL. Because the only way to find out is to breach the seal of the shell, and then you are committed one way or the other.

People tell you that you can just time it, but that’s not true! The weight of the pan, the kind of heat source, there are so many variables.

      • Yes, stressful. But I can top it, I think. To boost sales, you ask your son, YOUR OWN SON! to write a review on Amazon for a book you wrote, and when he does, it’s clear he hasn’t read it.

        • My cousin’s boyfriend’s sister read and wrote a review of my book on Amazon. Which was very disappointing, because I thought it was my only non-requested spontaneous review, and then at the next large family gathering, it came up that it was actually yet another family connection.

  1. Oh, but that moment when you just made the noise and are waiting for the baby to start crying? There’s a definite adrenaline rush there.

    • But is it possibly as exciting as waiting to see if you overcooked your eggs?

  2. The way you feel about eggs is the way I feel about making cake for others! I live in terror that I’ve underbaked something and I’m feeding someone raw batter 😦
