Happy Monday! I got to see a PERSON yesterday!!! I picked my friend up at work and we got ice cream cones and then went back to my place and watched a Rani movie and it was AMAZING. And now I am trying to come down off that high and actually do work-work.
Here is where you get to ask me anything you want. From “what movie did you watch yesterday?” to “how old is Rani anyway?” Just keep swinging back to this post all week as you think of new things you want to know.
Now, question for you! Simple one, what is your favorite Rani Mukherjee movie?
I say “simple”, and of course now I am really struggling to answer! I think Aiyyaa. As a movie, I like KKHH better, but as a Rani performance, Aiyyaa is AMAZING. She’s silly and smart and sexy all mixed up together.

Good morning. Early Rani, later Rani, it’s all great. And YES to Aiyyaa! (with a shout-out to Prithviraj)

National Awards 2019 were announced today and Jersey won Best Telugu Film and I just can’t with it because this movie is stupid. It’s about a guy who does nothing all the time, and later choses to leave the scene in style but also in the most idiotic and useless way. I’m really surprised Ranbir wasn’t chosen for the remake.
I’m also super confused because Mohanlal’s Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham won the Best film in Malayalam, but we have 2021 already and this film still didn’t release so how it can win the awards for 2019?
And the most important question I’m asking myself: Why I bother?

I was about to ask you the “why do you bother?” question! National Awards, so silly. Unless I win the award for writer on film some year, it could happen!

At least some nice people and films won in Tamil: Dhanush for Asuran and Vijay Sethupathi for Super Deluxe (hate the movie but he was the best).

Wait, is Jersey the one Shahid is remaking? If he chooses to pursue his latter career artistic fulfillment by playing a bunch of tortured narcissists, that’s going to be a real letdown.

YES! And Angie says it is TERRIBLE, and if Angie says it is terrible, it is really really terrible.

Nani in Jersey isn’t narcissist, he is only a absolutely useless guy, not able to do a thing right. But I guess he loves his family and isn’t toxic, just a failure. Maybe that’s why people love it?

I guess not toxic is good? I was hoping after Kabir Singh that Shahid would go in a different direction.

The eligibility I think is when the movie has received censor certificate. Many times it happened in the past that a movie got censored in a year and released next year – movie got awards for the previous year

What do you think about Rani’s upcoming movie Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway? We doesn’t know much, but I’m not thrilled.

I am nervous about it too! It sounds like another Rani star feature, and I think to make it a better movie, it needs a co-lead, and Rani as heroine is fun but I want a strong co-star next to her.

I know there aren’t many interesting roles for women, and especially older actresses, so I should be happy with what we get, but I don’t need another Rani single handedly wins this or that, or beats the gangsters, or sues entire Norway. I want Rani , sad widow, meets sexy tamilian Vijay Sethupathi and starts romance with him.

Yes! Rani is such a fantastic actress, I want her to act opposite her equals.

My favorite Rani movie .. and just one of my overall anytime pick me up movie, is Mujhse Dosti Karoge! I love everything about it! It may be sap and trite, but gosh did I enjoy every bit — one of the only times I liked Uday Chopra too!
Just wish Kareena and Uday ended up together in the movie – then it’d be all neatly tied up 😀

Which Rani movie did you watch with your friend?
I have two favorite Rani movies that I watch over and over again that I think of are purely Rani movies (besides MDK which you know I love, but I watch that movie for Rani, Hrithik, and Kareena equally):
1. Chori Chori – this movie is all about Rani and I can see it anytime I am sad and it will instantly
cheer me up.
2. Dil Bole Hadippa – Besides the one super annoying scene of Anupam being a giant jerk and emotionally blackmailing Shahid (which I fast forward every time), I love everything about that movie. Even the fact that I can always tell is it Rani pretending to be a boy! She is just adorable in it and it makes me happy!

Badal! Which I saw years and years ago and remembered being fairly decent, and by golly it was fairly decent!!!! I’ll be reviewing it some time or other in the next few days when I feel like it.
1. I have to admit, I still haven’t seen Chori Chori. Somehow I can’t wrap my head around Rani and Ajay.
2. Yes Dil Bole Hadippa! It’s so happy! So good! So light and bright and joyful! The romance is a bit rushed, but it’s Rani, so I will believe Shahid fell in love that fast.

Yay! Badal! I will rewatch it before your review but yes, I remember Rani being delightful in it! In a way, Rani reminds me of Sridevi. In interviews and real life, she just seems very polite, private, and kind of boring. And then she comes on screen and it is magical!
Oh, I wouldn’t watch Chori Chori for the longest time too because of Rani-Ajay combo was too weird for me, especially since he was already married to Kajol for a few years by then. But then, my sister made me watch it one time as part of her movie choice (about 7 years ago) and I LOVED it! I did NOT care that Ajay was married to Rani’s cousin. Somehow Rani just shines so brightly and Ajay is really just his normal grumpy sullen self and the chemistry works somehow. And there is Sonali and she is just so great! I think of it as Rani’s movie with Ajay and Sonali as supporting actors.

Yes! Rani is this quiet somewhat dull even person in “real life” and then is so vibrant onscreen. I like it, I can easily enjoy her just as an onscreen presence and not worry about what she is like in “reality”.

So I was watching 99 songs trailer, and later youtube reccomended me a nice indian fusion music, and later Bandish Bandits jukebox, and now I’m shocked because seems that Bandish Bandits is not some stupid series about gangsters and bandits as I though, but a romantic drama about HINDUSTANI CLASSICAL MUSICIAN (!!!!!!) . It explores “the debate of music being a discipline versus a means of liberation”, has Atul Kulkarni, the soundtrack written by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy and songs like this:
Why nobody told me eariler about this series!? It is just like written for me.

I’m watching a telugu movie right now and there is a character they call “baava” and it’s translated as “brother-in-law” .He is very posesive of the heroine and beats every guy who falls in love with her. I thought it’s because she is a part his family therefore he defends his family honour. But now people ask him when he will marry the heroine and I’m so confused! So isn’t he the husband of her sister? Why she calls him “brother-in-law” then? Telugu family relations are so complicated!

I think “baava” might actually be “cousin/uncle who is the traditional fiance”? But I am not sure.

Bava is used in many relations – husband of elder sister (SRK in Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham is Bava to Kareena); son of father’s sister or mother’s brother – in this case, that boy and girl can marry each other – this trope is common in Telugu and Tamil families and movies – e.g. Athadu, Murari, Ninne Pelladata.

Thank you yjibasu. Can I ask you another thing? The movie I have seen is called: Vinara Sodara Veera Kumara. What does the title mean?

Vinara – listen, Sodara – brother, veera – brave kumara – boy\son – “Listen, oh my brother/boy, I am going to tell you something”.
This line comes from Burrakatha, a village cultural oral story telling techinque https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burra_katha
