Friday WatchAlong: Dil! Aamir and Madhuri, Whose Hair is the Foofiest????

Yaaaaaay, Friday WatchAlong on a Friday!!!! And unless my plans change, I should be all relaxed and stuff for this movie, because I scheduled a massage for 1pm (did I tell you I woke up on Wednesday with my neck so messed up I couldn’t move my head?).

Dil! On Netflix! It’s Dumb! It’s Fun! The Songs are great!

At 3pm Chicago time, I will put up an “And Play!” comment and we will go from there!

  1. Do you think the audience was supposed to go “oh boy, Anupam Kher acting wacky! What a great movie!” with this opening? Or was it just a time killer while everyone bought popcorn?

    • Anupam is one of those character actors that just brings a familiar smile to my face whenever I see him. . . skinny or paunchy. He’s kind of like Iftekhar, or “Central Jail,” or that one swimming pool that’s in all the ’70s films.

  2. I wonder what happened to this director, Indra Kumar. I looked him up and he directed so many popular movies in the 90s( Ishq, Beta, Maan etc) and now just directs weird random garbage. Hmmm I wonder if he fell over of favor with Aamir?

  3. Someday we ought to make up a list of all of the legs-only character introductions in classic Hindi movies. “Suhaag,” which I was watching the other day, has one.

    • I was going to say that I thought it was just ’90s style (or ’90s style as processed through Hindi movies), but then the first other example I thought of was the infamous yellow hotel-dinner suit in “Rangeela.”

    • I was thinking their skin was pimply because they were doing so many movies and thus were in make-up all the time. I mean normal people get pimples, but make-up also causes pimples.

  4. OOOH look at the lifts on those white sneakers on Aamir! I appreciate that Aamir has had to wear uncomfortable heels his whole life. Why should women be the only ones to suffer?!

    • Oh I wear it all the time! Also, my favorite shirt on my husband is a pink button down! And he is the most conservative dresser I know!

  5. Obviously, it’s meant to be a throwback style here, but the old-fashioned rock-and-roll-i-ness of this song reminds me a lot of R. D. Burman’s songs for movies like “Pyar Ka Mausam” back in the late ’60s/early ’70s.
