Saturday WatchAlong: Dil Dhadakne Do! Starting at 7:30am! For Genevieve’s BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy birthday Genevieve!!!!!! And thank you for picking such a great movie! I look forward to a lively debate between me, who is sympathetic to Anil Kapoor, and everyone else, who hates him.

Dil Dhadakne Do! It’s on Netflix in America, and probably other places in other places. Great movie, great songs, mixed cast, sexy Anil Kapoor.

At 7:30am Chicago time, I will put up an “and PLAY!” comment and we will go from there!

(also, Genevieve, refresh the site about 15 minutes after the movie is over, I’ve got another present for you)

  1. I really really want to see a movie about Noorie some day! Have we ever gotten that? A movie from the perspective of the bride who got dramatically left?

  2. Is anyone else really wanting to watch Veere Di Wedding now? Because it’s the same people, only they love each other more?

  3. Seeeeee???? She is breaking his heart!!!!! Anil may be cheating and fighting, but he also still sincerely loves her more than anyone. It’s complicated. That scene did not feel like acting to me, that felt like him legitimately reaching out and being rejected.

  4. I showed this movie to my parents, though my father mostly read emails through it. But at this bed scene my mother hissed “Why did you say that?!?”

  5. Some people say that the daughter with the shaved under head is gay. I can’t tell, I can just tell she doesn’t care to be molded into her mother’s ideal. You go girl!

    • I’m also getting gay from her. At least, she is presenting herself in a way that could be read as gay. She also looks a lot like Reema and Zoya now! It feels a little like a self-insert.

      • She was not cute like the super cute girls who are always gay. However, not everyone who is gay, can be super cute. Not everyone can look like Megan Rapinoe & Portia de Rossi.

  6. This is such a well-done conversation. Both of them are so caught up in their own marriage misery that they can’t see the perspective of the other one. Shefali needs advice of “if you love him and want it to last, you need to talk to your husband and work on your marriage” not “leave him”. And PC needs the advice of “leave him” not “work on it”.

Also, is it possible that Shefali saw PC not as herself but more as Anil? She wants Anil to stop working as much and be there for her.

  7. I love how Rahul is subtly out of sync with the group. He tries, but he just isn’t fitting in with them. DON’T MARRY YOUR DAUGHTER TO SOMEONE SUPER OLD!!!!

  8. I just went down a connections rabbit hole with Vikrant. So he was with Ranveer in Lootera, maybe that is why he got this role? And then Dips cast him in the first movie she produced, after she was married to Ranveer? Is he, like, a friend of the couple?

  9. I love how fast this relationship moves!!! It feels like Zoya and Reema just threw out the rulebook and said “we are going to have them fall in love with no misunderstandings or chasing or difficulties and then go from there”

  10. 12 year old is watching with me now, and he can’t tell the difference between turkey and India. I suppose I should force him to watch some travel documentaries.

    • If you do travel ones that contain food then you better have them eat before watching or after. Otherwise, there will be the inevitable hungry stomach looking at delicious meals from around the world. I suggest Rick Stein’s documentaries, they are on YouTube, but they will make you hungry.

  11. He is basically saying “I hate your family” – ugh! Of course I kinda hate them too, so perhaps I shouldn’t judge.

  12. Marriage comaprison!!!! Shefali and Anil’s marriage is a disaster, but at least she feels comfortable rudely and bluntly shutting down sex, and he immediately agrees. PC and Rahul’s passive dance is so much yuckier.

    • Great point!!! Shefali-Anil have a messed up marriage but he still consults her about money and business decisions. They are equals. With PC and Rahul, there is a huge imbalance in the power dynamic. PC is just a vessel for breeding to Rahul.

      • Yes! Shefali and Anil have the advantage of, at one point in the past, really truly being in love and connecting. They still have that level of knowledge and comfort with each other. PC and Rahul have clearly never connected at all.
