Sunday WatchAlong: Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna! 10am Chicago Time! Hate or Love Watch, as You Prefer!

Happy Sunday!!!! Our first Sunday watchalong in a while. In honor of Rachel’s birthday. And in honor of me FINALLY getting someone to watch Kabhi Alvida na Kehna with me.

It’s on youtube, it’s on googleplay, it’s on Netflix, and it’s probably on einthusan!!!! You have no reason not to watch it! Except for maybe that you don’t enjoy it! In which case you can watch it and hate on it! So, HA! Still no excuse!

At 10am Chicago time I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will keep going from there!

  1. Although the whole “it’s not really real so long as we don’t kiss” emotional affair logic is INFURIATING. Make it real! Feel the guilt! Accept your sin!

  2. Is it me or throughout this whole movie and in others of course does it seem like all of these “Americans” or actually Europeans? I don’t know if that sounds weird but like every time somebody speaking English it’s like they don’t have an accent that matches where they’re supposed to be which is in New York. Maybe the only one was the nurse.

  3. This is a weirdly large room with just one crowded table. Why not have a bigger table and spread things out a little?

    • HA! Abhishek gets taken by a white girl in the end! My team wins!!!!!! Your team just gets grumpy SRK. Well, and also patient Arjun, so it’s not that bad.

  4. Thoughts: Should SRK just have sucked it up and recommitted to his marriage and never told Preity? Or is it better for her to know everything and be able to move on? Or should he have just asked for a divorce without tell her why?

    • I think he had to come clean and he knew that it would end the marriage. It would come out at some point anyway.

      • Good point, they do live ina small world. Soooooo much worse for Preity to find out in public, like poor Jaya in Silsila.

  5. In a different movie, I would find Abhishek scarya nd abusive in this scene. But boy, he has been through the WRINGER! He has earned his angry moment and she has earned feeling terrible!!!! Plus, it’s not like he actually physically hurts her at any point.

  6. He’s gonna be so happy to wake up and find Dad gone.

Also, it is really weird how different SRK is as a father in this movie versus in real life! Right? Resenting being a caregiver for the kids, yelling at them, enforcing gender rules, what the heck is that?

    • And yet, I don’t think Karan meant for SRK to be this unsympathetic in this movie. I think he just poured his heart out and the pieces fell where they did.

  7. Rani is an orphan, feels pressured into a loveless marriage even if it is by her own doing, is unhappy and sad. I should feel more sympathy for her, right? And yet, I don’t. I have no sympathy for Rani. Everything was her own doing and she takes zero responsibility for her role in ruining both her and Abhishek’s life. And she basically kills Amitabh with her callousness!!! No sympathy!

    • And she takes zero responsibility for making her life better! She isn’t some simple village teenager, she is an educated woman in New York. Sex Counseling! Adoption! Regular old couples therapy! So many simple things that she never bothered to try, because it was easier to stew in her own disappointment.

  8. I am not calling my teacher by her first name, that’s WEIRD. Also, Rani, ADOPT AS A SINGLE MOM. By the time you are hanging around children’s parks, it’s just creepy.

    • Funny for you to say that because here in Finland, it is almost a rule to call teachers by their first name. Talking about stuff and familiarity is all right when it comes to that – good if one needs help or something.

  9. Despite all the grief I give it, I actually really like the purpose of this song. Karan could easily have had them rush into each other’s arms immediately, but we the audience have to be convinced that this is a love that will really last, and we also kind of want to see them suffer before they find happiness. And see a happy ending for Abhisheka nd Preity too. Really good to give us a 2 years montage.

    • But wouldn’t it have been better if the song was a montage which showed them each doing stuff to make themselves better people instead of just showing them miss each other?

        • Yes, they are. I just think if they had shown SRK and Rani becoming better people in this song, the ending could maybe have been deserved. Maybe.
