Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Day After a TORNADO?

Happy Monday! I was woken at 11:30 last night by a friends text chain sharing tornado stories. Very exciting! Chicago doesn’t often get tornados! And then I had to get up early to drop off bagels at the house of a friend who’s basement flooded, and zip by and check on my new two flat to make sure it didn’t flood. HOMEOWNERSHIP!

Here is where you get to ask me anything from “what is a tornado?” to “what Indian movies are there about flooding?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! It’s Reema Lagoo’s birthday, which of her Mother roles do you like best?

I’m partial to Maine Pyar Kiya myself. She’s so tough, standing up to her husband and things. Plus, she throws water balloons at hoodlums in the finale!

Reema Lagoo's winsome moments as Bollywood's Ma - Rediff.com movies

  1. I am currently watching Jab Jab Phool Khile on Einthusan. I just wanted to see Shashi’s first big hit. And, I was all set to rag on it a bit, watching the heroine dancing around on a houseboat roof, wearing a floor length white satin gown. ( Something that I have never packed for a vacation, preferring to stick with a black lace, off the shoulder ….t-shirt.) Then, Shashi’s character, speaking of his parents, said, “But they were madly in love with each other. Even their bodies were found, holding each other’s hand. That’s my dream, too. I want to die with my hand in hers (his future wife).” And, knowing Shashi’s history, tears. Now, back to the movie, this time with a load of kleenex.

  2. My favourite Reema Lagoo role is in Aai Shappath! She plays good and strong woman who raised her daughter alone. Everybody believes she is a widow but it’s not true. Sho left her abusive husband to save the daughter.

  3. Of the ones I’ve seen, I’ll go with Reema in KHNH, mostly because that part has not much writing to it but she has to completely sell the emotion in order for the film to work, and she does.

Tornadoes! Hope they’re not coming here. Did your new house roof hold up?

    • At first I read KHNH as KKHH, and you could say the same thing about Reema in both movies! But more in KHNH, you are right.

New house held up fine, I’m so proud of it.

    • I’ll do you one better! Is it necessary to watch Saheb, Biwi, Aur Ghulam to understand Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster?

      • Oh yes, I loved it. It’s so beautiful visually and there is a cute cat in the story. I also cried but because I found it sad and tragic.

    • It took me 4 days to understand you were talking about Pixar’s Luca and not about Tovino Thomas Luca. Now I understand what you mean with “happy tears”.
