Happy Friday! Yaaaaaaay, a movie!!!!! I am in an unairconditioned lake house with a fan aimed right on me, so this movie has to distract me from how hot I am (temperature, not appearance).
Hasee Toh Phasee! It’s on Netflix, it’s super cute, it’s a wee bit objectionable with mental health but we will ignore that because Sid M is adorable.
At 3pm Chicago time I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will all go along from there!
Holy crap they are so hot together!!!

I also like this style of Sid hair with it falling in front of his eyes, rather than styled up with gel

He is starting to be himself so he is not perfectly stylizing his hair for Karishma.

Works much better for not taking pills. “You get scared when you feel things, so you stop taking pills”

Let’s chat about Sid’s hair. It reminds me of Hrithik’s hair in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. It is such a crucial part of the movie. It changes based on his personality.

YES! Also, Anushka’s in JHMS.

YES! Also, doesn’t Katrina’s hair do the same in a movie? I don’t know why I can’t think of the movie right now.

Bharat!!!! Her curls are EVERYTHING

Does she go from stylized to curls in the movie?? I was thinking of Bharat but couldn’t remember her hair being stylized at any point. But I may be conveniently trying not to remember that.

The casual physical violence in Indian film, even modern, is something I’ve never been able to get past

Same. It really gets to me.

Small thing, but I feel like the script and Pari’s performance make it very clear here that she truly did believe her father would hit her. Not because he was scary or anything, but because she sees the world so black and white that she didn’t think she could be forgiven.

Her father? I felt the opposite. She knew she could steal from her dad and he would forgive her. That’s why she can’t ask and take the chance that he might refuse her, then she couldn’t go through with it.

That was such a sweet thing though. Sid could have easily dumped the pills. But he doesn’t. That’s impressive.

Pari’s relationship with her father is just so great. She talks sciene to him and tells him she planned to steal from him. He says okay, go ahead and take the money. I love everything about this relationship.

I should add with staples, which he is shirtless. Such a twist on the traditional woman sewing a button on the man’s shirt with a needle and thread, while he is wearing it.

And not in a stereotypical “I will sew it” way, but just clipping it in the most sufficient and quickest way to have his problem solved.

That conversation reminds me of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. which is this whole plot of course, but specifically the moment when they openly address the complication of being in love at a siblings wedding. Instead of all those stupid “unspoken” movies.

And they do it in the beginning to middle of the movie. They don’t wait until the end. I love that part of the movie.

See, this is the moment where I think Karishma is 100% redeemed and her previous behavior is reframed as “I knew something was essentially wrong in our relationship which is why I kept testing it” instead of just being a b—-. She can feel, she can care about his happiness, she can do the right thing, she just got stuck in this role in the same way he got stuck in the “cool dude” role.

Yes! I love this part of the movie. They do such a realistic job of redeeming her. Unlike all the filmy fathers who are redeemed without any redeeming quality.

She acknowledges that she is part of the problem in their relationship, and that it’s no one’s fault really, and he can go without any guilt. Better than any father!

Yes! And she has the courage to let him go because she knows she has to do it for both of their happiness. Another way the women in this movie are just amazing!!!

This end credits song is either really dumb or really smart, and I choose smart. “Drama Queen” usually means someone super emotional and demanding and basically Karisma. But they are flipping it around and saying “what if we call this logical smart practical woman a drama queen?”

Yes! I also love the part where Sid is doing Bharatnatyam and Pari is in a paint suit flipping her hat.

During the end credits, final thought, this movie is a total pair with JHMS!!!! Cool sexy dude who can navigate the world but craves unconditional love. Daughter of a large rich family who can’t quite be the “perfect” daughter and feels out of place. The two of them fit together and fill each other’s “void”
