Friday WatchAlong: Hasee Toh Phasee! For Courtney’s Birthday! 3pm Chicago Time

Happy Friday! Yaaaaaaay, a movie!!!!! I am in an unairconditioned lake house with a fan aimed right on me, so this movie has to distract me from how hot I am (temperature, not appearance).

Hasee Toh Phasee! It’s on Netflix, it’s super cute, it’s a wee bit objectionable with mental health but we will ignore that because Sid M is adorable.

At 3pm Chicago time I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will all go along from there!

  1. Let’s chat about Sid’s hair. It reminds me of Hrithik’s hair in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. It is such a crucial part of the movie. It changes based on his personality.

  2. Small thing, but I feel like the script and Pari’s performance make it very clear here that she truly did believe her father would hit her. Not because he was scary or anything, but because she sees the world so black and white that she didn’t think she could be forgiven.

    • Her father? I felt the opposite. She knew she could steal from her dad and he would forgive her. That’s why she can’t ask and take the chance that he might refuse her, then she couldn’t go through with it.

  3. Pari’s relationship with her father is just so great. She talks sciene to him and tells him she planned to steal from him. He says okay, go ahead and take the money. I love everything about this relationship.

  4. That conversation reminds me of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. which is this whole plot of course, but specifically the moment when they openly address the complication of being in love at a siblings wedding. Instead of all those stupid “unspoken” movies.

  5. See, this is the moment where I think Karishma is 100% redeemed and her previous behavior is reframed as “I knew something was essentially wrong in our relationship which is why I kept testing it” instead of just being a b—-. She can feel, she can care about his happiness, she can do the right thing, she just got stuck in this role in the same way he got stuck in the “cool dude” role.

    • Yes! I love this part of the movie. They do such a realistic job of redeeming her. Unlike all the filmy fathers who are redeemed without any redeeming quality.

      • She acknowledges that she is part of the problem in their relationship, and that it’s no one’s fault really, and he can go without any guilt. Better than any father!

        • Yes! And she has the courage to let him go because she knows she has to do it for both of their happiness. Another way the women in this movie are just amazing!!!

  6. So, interesting. I just looked up the director of this movie. And he has only directed one other movie: Hassena Dilruba. Which I find really interesting. Both feature really interesting heroines and amazing chemistry between the characters.

  7. This end credits song is either really dumb or really smart, and I choose smart. “Drama Queen” usually means someone super emotional and demanding and basically Karisma. But they are flipping it around and saying “what if we call this logical smart practical woman a drama queen?”

  8. During the end credits, final thought, this movie is a total pair with JHMS!!!! Cool sexy dude who can navigate the world but craves unconditional love. Daughter of a large rich family who can’t quite be the “perfect” daughter and feels out of place. The two of them fit together and fill each other’s “void”

  9. This was so fun! Interesting deep conversations with superficial thirsting over hot guys and pretty girls are why I love this blog. Thanks for indulging me. Sid and Pari are magical together. Have a great evening!
