Friday WatchAlong: Kal Ho Na Ho! Because SRK! 3pm Chicago Time

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, a watchalong!!!! I’m excited! I’m gonna get off work, do errands, then come home and settle in for a nice shared viewing experience.

Kal Ho Na Ho! It’s on Netflix, it’s AWESOME, and we have all probably already seen it. But just in case, for those who haven’t yet, NO SPOILERS. Well, as much as possible.

At 3pm Chicago time, I will put up an “And PLAY” comment and then we can all watch along together from there, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

  1. I can almost feel Karan scribbling down notes on being modern and hip while watching Dil Chahta Hai (I watched the movie recently) and the small comparisons between the movies and also in comparison to his earlier work is interesting.

  2. Ooooo, fall costuming! Or spring? how do the seasons work in this? Because it goes from coats to dancing in the park in sundresses.

    • Yea, one of the reasons I can’t 100% love this movie. Preity’s casual dislike of nearly EVERYONE is not nice to hear. I know she grows better, but still, that’s not best friend behaviour.

    • I just tried their new Apple Crisp Macchiato and it’s an experience. Every sip tastes different. Doesn’t really taste like apple until about halfway through the drink.

  3. Oh man, I would totally watch a long form TV serial about them meeting and becoming friends in evening MBA classes. I’m gonna guess they both started out trying to be friends with someone else in class who seemed a better fit, both got burned, ended up being study partner and friends.

    • I am still working (boo!!) and can’t watch the movie yet. But, this is one of my favorite parts of the movie because my husband and I met while going to law school at night and even got married in our last year of school. And no one besides our close friends knew we were together until graduation day when everyone saw us together! We had multiple professors ask us if we met and started dating in their class and we had to sadly let them know that we we dating well before taking their class.

  5. Pretty Woman is sunshine in a song. This might be my favorite from the soundtrack.
I just added this to my list of movies to watch with my dad, who’s also a music geek, and he might lose his mind during this part.

  6. I just realised that I might be way too European to fully appreciate this song. Cultural differences and it is so in my face. The Hindi parts are fine, but it looses me at the English parts. Then again India making a fun parody of America is fun!

Just thoughts as I watch this song…

    • Absolutely. And I think that is kind of the point of his character, he crosses SO many lines, but he is an Angel sent to take care of their family so it is okay. Angel/super charming.

  7. Thought experiment: The 3 men in this sequence represent 3 versions of the NRI man. There’s Saif, who is second generation and trying to be cooler than he is. White Suit Dude, who is first generation and always ready for a fight. And SRK, who is totally globalized and able to move between all cultures without shock.
