Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, a watchalong!!!! I’m excited! I’m gonna get off work, do errands, then come home and settle in for a nice shared viewing experience.
Kal Ho Na Ho! It’s on Netflix, it’s AWESOME, and we have all probably already seen it. But just in case, for those who haven’t yet, NO SPOILERS. Well, as much as possible.
At 3pm Chicago time, I will put up an “And PLAY” comment and then we can all watch along together from there, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
SRK stating the obvious…

I’m realizing how good a job this movie does at the love triangle. The description on Netflix gives nothing away, and it’s not immediately obvious who Preity is going to end up with from interactions alone. Saif and Shahrukh are equal contenders. I feel like that’s rare.

In hindsight not a good thing. Karan should have used some “All-American” BBQ restaurant or something as completion, but not another minority. The point should have come across anyway.

This is like Aditya Chopra’s kiss song from Befikre, except in NY in the 2000s. Just the shades are the same in the people represented in a song about love.

How long do we think it’s been at this point? And we’re really supposed to believe SRK never told anyone he’s married this entire time?
(Have we all seen this movie? I think an important scene is coming up soon anyway)

It’s either been a full year, or one REALLY weird week of weather 🙂
I can actually buy the secret marriage thing. A marriage breaking up would be so humiliating, you wouldn’t really want to talk about it.

I knew we had a newbie!!!
YES!!!! He sees life clearly because he is facing his own end, he is pushy and in a hurry to fix things because he doesn’t have much time, and he has to force Preity and Saif together without making it all about him and making them sad.
Plus, this scene brilliantly shows the reasons a dying person might not want to tell people. His Mom is suddenly sad which makes him sad, instead of allowing him to have a little break from the sadness.

The only thing offensive I can see about this gay storyline is the constant use of the word “normal”

And even that is just dealing with Indian English issues, I think. If they said “straight”, the audience wouldn’t get it.

Let’s talk about how perfectly the family background of each of the 3 leads defines who they are!
Preity’s household is such a disaster that any emotion at all is weakness opening her for attack, she has learned to hit first and hide her heart.
Saif was raised by parents whose only fault is loving TOO much. He is trying to distance himself and prove he can make it on his own, but under the “cool dude” cover he is just as warm and outgoing and sappy as his father. Also, he has no fear in opening up to people because he has only known love.
Shahrukh’s primary relationship is with his mother. He has spent years as an invalid, only his mother and his doctor there as friends. Now he has a chance to start fresh in New Yorka nd he is going wild making friends and partying and doing everything he was afraid he never could. And he is especially able to make friends with women, because of his mother.
