Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, a watchalong!!!! I’m excited! I’m gonna get off work, do errands, then come home and settle in for a nice shared viewing experience.
Kal Ho Na Ho! It’s on Netflix, it’s AWESOME, and we have all probably already seen it. But just in case, for those who haven’t yet, NO SPOILERS. Well, as much as possible.
At 3pm Chicago time, I will put up an “And PLAY” comment and then we can all watch along together from there, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Oh oh! Here’s the thing I missed on the first viewing! Jaya puts her finger on it, loving a man who is dead is a really sucky way to live a life. She has no partner, no support, no defense. If she can save Preity, get her to marry someone who will be there for her, she can stop her from repeating this pattern of loneliness.
Or, they could just Kill Grandma, and then they would have no problems.

Eternal question- how is Aman sitting right behind them?!!

He’s an ANGEL!!!! Sort of. Or at least has Angelic Powers.

He is an Angel, don’t question it. Jesus wanted him to help and so gave him invisibility powers

Camilla. I am 50% sure it’s a reference to Les Dames Aux Camille about a 19th century French courtesan and also the old Greta Garbo film Camille where she played said character.

SRK and Saif!!!! Together FOREVER!!!!

They should do a movie together again. It would be amazing! Old friends reuniting and reliving their youth with a dash of homoeroticism thrown in like in this movie.

This whole Sahhrukh speech is SPOT ON!!!! She DOES just think she loves Shahrukh! It IS just because he is a new part of her life! Saif is True Love Goals.

I’m swooning and yet also cringing? Saif is charming, but the suaveness doesn’t work for Rohit specifically.

He is the cool and comfy kind while SRK is the suave and charming one.

Has anyone but me seen the movie Hitch? And enjoyed it? The whole idea is that there is a date consultant who helps dudes get together with ladies. But the reveal at the end, when a woman finds out, is that everything he told the dude to do just got him in the door. She loved him because of all this other stuff that came up after the first date happened.
That’s what this part of the movie feels like to me. Shahrukh gave him confidence to break that first barrier, but what wins her over is Saif just being Saif after that first breakthrough.

Isn’t that the plot of Partner? With Salman and Govinda and Katrina?

Yep, it’s a remake.

Which is a remake of Hitch😁

See? It’s not the cool lines and the red dress that wins her over, it’s laughing as they both struggle through a dance class. So cute! So happy together! Way happier than Shahrukh ever made her.

And now the best song of this movie. Even I can’t argue with that.

When I was 19, I could recite this song. Not the lyrics, the shot order. “Arms! Dimple! People Dancing! Ugly Shoes!”

Saif and Preity in this movie are such couple goals!!! This song is just oozing with romance with the two of them.

And not unhealthy dramatic sparky romance, but cute hand holding and fixing colors and giggling romance.

This song does SO MUCH. It’s a whole philosophy, it has Shahrukh really feeling like an Angel removing himself from humanity, and it also shows how Preity and Saif go from friends to lovers.

I’ve watched this movie I don’t know how many times, and I STILL don’t get the point of this fantasy scene!

He wants to be in Saif’s place is my guess. Saif isn’t in the picture, but he still imagines having his slightly womanising/flirting ways. Yet also being loyal to Naina.

Wish fulfilment for SRK? To get you to still root for him with Preity a little bit.

Hmm, l m getting the SRK persona plot distortion vibes… only way it makes sense to me

Preity is really remarkably good in this movie. Not every moment lands perfectly, but the way she reacts to SRK and SAif in contrast is perfect.

Shahrukh’s reaction face at the end is so good. He could easily have done a whole movie just about dying.
Which is of course what the movie this is semi-remaking was about. Anand, 1970s, Rajesh Khanna plays a charming cheerful terminally ill man who moves to a new city for treatment, befriends his doctor, brings joy to everyone, while hiding his own fears and heartbreaks as best he can.

Did we all see Shahrukh subtely grabbing his chest after he and Saif chase after her? His body is starting to fail. Time is running out.

Saif’s subtle face acting as SRk does his speech is so good. The double take!

I’m being so nitpicky, but he’s not reading from the book anymore. This is such a great moment, but again, if this was real life, not believable anymore.

See SRK is sweaty and panting just from going up the steps into their house? Either he or Karan or Nikhil was really paying attention to this stuff.

This proposal is SO MUCH. But on the other hand, after all the awkwardness of friends first, and then the big fight they just had, Saif is kind of saying “I want to do this with romance and love and all of that because you deserve it”.

Small nit pick, I really think she should be wearing a full length dress. It’s a formal occasion!!!!

See that pushy “I need a hug” behavior that was there all along? Now it makes sense, knowing he is going to die, he just asks for affection when he needs it.

Weather report, we are back to sweaters. I say, the film covers 6 months. Starts in March with a chilly spring, then sudden summer, then a summer of romance and adventure, and now fall as we start wedding planning. Yes? And that would also fit with the sense that Shahrukh is at the end, just fighting for a few more months of life.

I’d just like to take Gia away. Even if the grandma dies, that’s still a lot of trauma for a little girl.

Back to the “Have Saif’s parents take her in!” solution. They are the sort of accepting indulging over the top loving parents she needs. And they want a project.

Jaya is a saint, A SAINT!!!!! And can I point out, Preity and Shiv managed to love Gia without knowing she was biologically related to them. It is possible for people who aren’t Devils to love little girls just because they are little girls.
