Saturday WatchAlong: Single All The Way! On Netflix! 8am Chicago Time

Woot, a nice Christmas movie again! The one time of year when Hollywood stuff is happy and family and romantic, just like we like it.

It’s on Netflix, should be available everywhere in the world, and I have already seen it and am very excited to see it again.

Netflix Lands Gay Holiday Rom-Com 'Single All The Way' - Variety
Love Triangle!!!!

At 8am Chicago time, I will put up an “and PLAY” comment on this post and we will comment along from there.

  1. Awwwwwwwwwww, this happy kiss ending is almost winning me back over to Peter. Also, I want to go to the nice plant store run by the nice gay couple with the dog.

    • Yes! Last year there was a Lesbian holiday movie, but my friend watched it and said it was all angsty and miserable. Versus this one, which is PERFECT and HAPPY.

ANd she immediately got into relationship with woman. ANd it was a terrible relationship (she wasn’t herself around her), I was so happy when they broke up. Though it was interesting, as they both had gray hair and were lesbians everyone meeting them assumed they were a long term married couple. The assumptions we make. She then declared she was going to be single for a while, and it lasted like two months. She’s in another relationship with another woman, who I haven’t met, yet. So I guess gay love is hard in small towns for everyone but her!

          • Have you noticed there are people who are just always in a relationship? Like Paul McCartney? Or my uncle? there’s like a radar about them, no matter how unlikely the circumstances, they WILL find a new partner within months of losing the old one.

    • There is a pink Christmas tree just sitting out in a yard, unlit, right on a main street near me. Soooooooooooo tempted to jut still it one night. Clearly I love it more than they do!

  2. Baby had a super long nap the other day, and I used it to watch most of this movie. Just finished and definitely don’t regret it. Somehow stereotypical gay culture with its love of camp and musical theater fits very well with our tastes here. Though I want to commend the film for the fact that most of the over-the-top highlights were actually not courtesy of the gays.

Do we think that someone on the staff was familiar with Indian film?

    • Yes! It’s the simplest thing ever, it’s a family love triangle that happens to be gay and you don’t need drama and angst, just do it “straight” as it were. With very dramatic mothers and aunts.

Did you ever finish What’s Cooking? I just watched if for a film discussion group I am leading, and it is SO good.

      • We watched it all through the terrible scary ending where the film takes ages to show us that the worst didn’t happen. So is that how you managed to be done with Christmas? Reminding yourself that if you deal with stress by preparing the perfect holiday, you’ll just get a broken table for your troubles?

        • So glad you finished it! And yes, that ending is way WAY too scary. Also, obviously, the lesson of the film is that if you just work even HARDER on making the perfect holiday, none of those bad things would have happened.
