Happy Thursday! And Happy Day Before New Years Eve! Let’s share our plans in a lovely DCIB community building way.
I’ll start!
After debating 3 and a half options, this is what I landed on! First option, the half option, was to host a party at our new house. And then by mid-November I realized that’s not happening this year! So my REAL options where to spend the night with Albie doing puzzles, spend the night upstairs with my friends watching Star Trek, or spend the night with my parents playing board games.
And I landed on….PARENTS! Which has caused my friends to make fun of me, but that’s okay, right? It’s fun to spend time with your parents and play board games! And they finally bought a guest bed for me, so I can try that out. And be somewhere OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE.
Anyway, what are your plans? Are you going to be playing board games with parents/children also? Is this the DCIB dominant activity?
Oh, and my Dad just shared this cartoon with me which is actually DCIB Worthy!

Oh, and of course, I have to include this song:
Staying home, eating junk food and enjoying the peace and calm with some cold coffee to help me stay up as long as I can (it’s the same kind of business during Midsummer). Might watch Atrangi Re forth maybe the tenth time or some other movie, I’ve been getting into Dhanush movies lately (surprise, surprise). I watched Karnan in the morning, which was very good! And now watching Asuran.

Ooo, are you staying home alone? That’s what I did 3 years ago and it was AWESOME. And then 4 years ago I did it by accident because I was sooooooooooo sick and had to miss a party, and that was less awesome.

No, just staying with my parents right now and pobably eating sushi. They just go to sleep so early and I am a certified ‘Night Owl’ so I am awake for far longer than they are. At night it is just so peaceful and somehow much easier to do something like writing than during the day. Not much of a party person, by nature and also by the lack of invites to parties. Doesn’t really much matter now, of course, with he current situation.

I really liked Dhanush in Maari 2. Nobody seems to like this movie except me. But it’s funny and over the top and has very nice romantic part and Sai Pallavi and Tovino as the villain.
Also the best Dhanush song ever (if only the movie was equally good):

Oh, I’ve seen and listened to the ‘Rowdy Baby’ song many times, but haven’t yet gotten to watch the movie though.

I’ll tell you what, if someone’s bored, there’s a pretty good Dostana fanfic among the yuletide stuff this year. Some other movies I’m not into, too.

Maybe we will be with in-laws in a snowy off-the-grid house on roads that only just opened and may well close again…or maybe the inlaws will realize that living in an off-the-grid house a mile from a road in 10 feet of snow is not something you can realistically do when you’re in your 70s and one of you is “recovering” from a stroke, and maybe they’ll rent an apartment for the winter? The problem with these in-laws is that I really don’t know. I don’t want to encourage them to try and get back into their house, but if they do then we will try to help them, but then if we help them are we encouraging them? So yeah, I have no idea where we’ll be tomorrow night.

Well this doesn’t sound stressful at all! Also, I am so glad my parents moved from their walk up into an elevator building all on their own in plenty of time.

Spending New Years eve with two of three children while spouse & 7 year old are helping grandparents in their snow-bound powerless house. But because the house is powerless he did tell me they may be moving in with us for an extended period of time before his phone died. (he can’t re-charge it, no power). This is a good thing, though our house will be crowded.

Oh dear. This all sounds very difficult. Although also manageable because you have such a great team behind you š

Does your son get to stay up late? Or does he still have to go to bed at a normal time? I was just fighting with my REal Life Friend who isn’t going to let her 3 year old stay up. It’s New Years! It’s SPECIAL.

He stays till Midnight, but when he was younger he didn’t wait for fireworks. Even now it’s hard for him stay awake late because he goes to bed at 10 pm usually.

We came down to my aunt’s beach apartment for a change of scene. We have friends who come down every year and stay in a house nearby. Everyone is freaked out about omicron and our family is probably the biggest contagion risk so we’re not eating together and we’ll only go over to toast around the fire pit. Theoretically the kids are staying up, but without a party not sure they’ll make it. Sedate but still glad for a small change of scene to mark the arrival of the new year. 2022 not off to the start we’d looked forward to, hopefully it gets better!

You get to STAY UP UNTIL MIDNIGHT! Why would you not stay up? It’s so exciting! And then everyone asleep by 12:30 if it is like my family.

Update: they did stay up. We walked over to the friends’ house around 11, hung out on the porch long enough to toast the new year, at which point the children immediately started asking if we could go home. I held out for 15 minutes then took them home and left my husband to hang with the geown- ups. In return, he let me sleep in until almost 10.

Oh how nice!!! We watched Bake Off, and played card games, and drank sparkling grape juice, and then banged pots on the balcony at midnight, and then went inside complaining about how ridiculous it is that the mayor has organized World’s Largest Firework Display instead of fixing ANYTHING about the city.

Quietly at home in bed by myself eating Christmas brandy cherries and reading trash. Utter bliss. Happy New Year y’alls, may 2022 be a good one.

Oooooo, that does sound really nice! Maybe next year I will ignore everyone in my life and just stay home alone with the dog. Or, next year I will get to go to a big fun party again!

The church bells are ringing out the old year, fireworks are going off, it’s lovely. I think I’ve been hankering for alone-time without realising it.
