Happy Monday! I’m HEALTHY!!!! Thank goodness. The sickness is totally 100% gone, now I just have to deal with the after effects of eating weird food and not exercising a lot and sleeping weird for the past month.

I love Tum Hi Ho, but now my favourite song is Yaar Illahi. I can’t call it Arjit’s song because there are other singers too, but his part is the most important one so I think it qualifies:

Yes, it’s from marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali. A must watch for the beautiful music. It’s composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy and Shankar Mahadevan even plays one of the roles. I love this movie.

In your last thinky post Twinkles wrote there should be tag in movie reviews e.g Angst with a happy ending, rain scenes, reincarnation etc What tags would make you think “I must absolutely watch it”? Mine would be : love triangle, old lovers meet again after years, drums, classical dancing.

I have avoided boasting on my Pesah cooking while you’ve been too sick to be envious. I do have to admit that, despite my previous professed ignorance re: Easter food, my mind has been a little changed this weekend. A friend kidnapped me to a Greek Orthodox service at literal midnight. Our reward for still being standing and semi-conscious at 4:00 a.m. was this really wonderful lemony soup made out of lamb’s tongue and liver. Also, the bishop handed me an egg, and now my hands–which already had fading kofer/henna from Pesah the previous week–are still covered in weird red egg dye. I look like I fought a bottle of iodine and lost.
But ANYWAY, ever since your Easter/Pesah/Ramadan food post I have been saving this image: https://postimg.cc/gallery/jsqv6gm . The tall conical things are kusa mashy, zucchinis stuffed with ground lamb and vegetables. In the white bowl, maror (which for us is a fennel/dill salad with very sour dressing made of pickled lemons). Green stuff is roz wa salq, sort of like cross between risotto and ghormeh sabzi. (I also put a photo of the MOUNTAIN of chard I had to clean/grind to make only a quart of this dish. There’s, like, twenty-five bucks of chard in there.) Little square things, orsa or homemade matsot flavored with coriander. White sauce on plate, toumy or garlic relish to eat with all the other savory things. In the teacup, sharbat aynab. . . because most Egyptian Karaites don’t eat fermented things during Hag Hamatsot, we have to make fresh raisin or grape drinks rather than having wine with seder. And finally, in the little green bowl, mahalabia. It’s a really rich pudding made with half and half and rice flour. I flavored it with cardamom, black pepper, and mahlab.

Curious, why haven’t you reviewed Dil Dhadakne Do? I found the writing, plot and acting SO strong across the board, even the minor characters were portrayed with such depth (perhaps Anushka’s was the only character that needed better fleshing out), so was searching your blog for your view and turns out there was no record. On that note, what did you think of Gully Boy too?

My favorite Arijit Singh song is Lal Ishq, because it’s so fun to sing along. Slow enough for non Hindi speakers.
A bit obscure, but he did a version of the Rabindrasangeet Amaro Porano Jaha Chaya for the series Stories from Rabindranath Tagore which was amazing.
