Fun Post! Self-Help Books for Movie Characters

Thank you townsandtulips for the suggestion! Hopefully this is a fun conversation for us to have πŸ™‚

I’ll start us off!

Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

She should read “Delusions of Gender”. I haven’t read it myself, but based on the title and reviews, I think it is EXCELLENT for Anjali

Jordan in Rockstar

The Coloring book, “Keep Calm and Condom On”

Rekha in Umrao Jaan

Thriving in Sex Work: Heartfelt Advice for Staying Sane in the Sex Industry

Mahi, Radhika, and Gayatri in Bachne Ae Haseeno

“Dating a Narcissist: The Brutal Truth You Don’t Want to Hear”

Thakur Sahib in Sholay

“It’s OK That You’re Not Ok: Meeting Grief and Loss in a Culture That Doesn’t Understand”

Any other thoughts?

  1. The last three are fantastic!!

The family in Dil Dhadakne Do: Crucial Conversations

Sid from Wake Up Sid: What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20

These are book/movies that immediately spring to mind, but I’ll think more.

  2. Great topic! ‘Delusions of Gender’ is really interesting, very science-heavy, from what I remember. Rahul, e.g., couldn’t have managed it. πŸ˜€
Chandramukhi could probably use ‘Codependent No More’.

    • Rahul couldn’t, but I do love the idea of Big Anjali reading it after uni, teaching it to Little Anjali and Farida after she’s married to Rahul and in a few years he can quote the book verbatim because everybody in the house discusses it all the time.

On the other hand, I’m not sure how good the education in those colleges even was (“Love is friendship.” Like, what?? Learn to analyze text, people!!).
