Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me on a Blechy Blechy Day?

Happy Monday! Or “blech Monday”, to put it another way. It’s super overcast and just dreary in Chicago. But at least I have y’all to cheer me up!

Here is where you get to ask me anything from “Margaret, what is your favorite color?” to “Margaret, please write a very in depth discussion post on this particular topic”. Just keep swinging back all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! Which is really more of a discussion/complaint. Why are dog fish oil treats so gross smelling? And why do they WORK? Last year at this time Albie Dog started scratching like crazy because his winter coat was growing in, and a friend told me to buy fish oil dog treats and by golly it worked! He stopped scratching and his coat grew in all soft and nice. I did it again this year, but they are soooooooooo stinky it almost makes me gag. Why so smelly? And why, against all logic, do they make Albie Dog stop scratching?

  2. Nice news to cheer you up:

    Parineeti got married

Swara and her husband have a daughter:

And Vikrant Massey and his wife are expecting a child

      • Have Swara and Vikrant starred opposite each other yet actually? I would watch that, too!

Now the question is will Parineeti stop acting…I think it’s more likely since she’s married a politician and her career has been in a slow nose dive for a while. I’ll always root for her and I love many of her films and am an apologist for others, but her last few projects have been terrible and the new Akshay one looks like another Kesari non-role. I do have high hopes for the Diljit co-starring biopic, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she goes out on that one (and it has the potential to be a lauded performance at least). As much as I love Parineeti, I’ve always thought that she was ambivalent (and at times uncomfortable) with her film career. and the personal scrutiny.

  4. Fish is stinky. It is the oil that helps Albie’s coat. Would a different kind of oil work? Do dogs like olive oil? Would Albie lick up 1/8 a cup of olive oil a day without barfing? I remember rubbing olive oil on my babies heads to releave their cradle cap. Maybe I should have fed them fish oil treats, but that would have been hard, no teeth and all.

Also, I don’t like champagne colored wedding outfits. It is too close to beige. Beige is boring and is not meant to be worn by humans on the day they want to pretend is the most special day ever. I curse the designers who started this “get married in beige” trend.

But thank you Angie for posting the pictures. I do hope Parineeti is happy regardless of her color choices.

    • Oh, and Margaret, while I recognize I live in a very different environment, look at the plants on the gray days. Where I live the greens are greener, the flowers brighter, the visual contrasts between wood and leaf stronger on the gray days. Okay, full disclosure this probably has something to do with the moisture in the air which is usually at a minimum in my area. But maybe in humid Chicago something of the sort happens as well? It is worth a look.

    • In dog-treat-format, everything oil based seems to be super stinky. I think I just enjoy different smells than Albie enjoys. Oh well, differences are what keep relationships interesting.

    • Oh yes, beige weddings are becoming boring.
I wish all the best to the new couple but I must admit I don’t like them for a very stupid reason. When they started going public months ago, the paps were asking, if they are together , and Pari, said something like: no, we are just college friends, we had lunch, nothing more. The next thing we knew few days later was that they got engaged. And I was like: what was the point of lying? I know, she doesn’t own us or paps nothing and it’s her private life. She can date who she wants, and it’s not my buisness (especially when the relationship is fresh, or they are just having fun, I understand it’s better to not tell entire world, more in the patriarchal country like India), but really what’s the point of hiding it?

  5. I was checking upcoming hindi movies today and found this “gem” releasing in October:

I can’t believe such movies are still made in 2023. I mean I know bad movies are still alive, but what Rituparna Sengupta is doing there? Is she in trouble? I’m reading her filmography now and looks like she is still working a lot in Bengali industry. So why this strange film?

  7. What are your and others’ best tips to return to normal life after a few weeks overseas?
I came back yesterday evening and just so wiped out today even after 12h of sleep. The flights were so so long

    • I remember even just the trips to and from Europe, one direction in particular, it would take me about three days to adjust. And that journey was about half as long. Give yourself permission to feel off for 5 days to a week. Then if you get back to normal earlier it will be like a bonus!

    • As with any sleep thing (and I am terrible about this myself), just lean into it. If you are wide awake at night, great! Cook something! Read my blog! Watch a movie! If you are exhausted at the end of the day, fine! Go to bed at 5pm!

      • I agree with Margaret! For years I tried to make myself adjust as fast as possible but it only backfires. Get up when you want to and sleep when you feel like it.

  8. Any upcoming movies, shows you’re looking forward to?

Ones I’m interested in and might interest you – both by Vishal Bhardwaj incidentally:

Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley, based on one of Agatha Christie’s works

    Khufiya

With these and Jaane Jaan recently, it’s quite a selection of atmospheric mysteries and thrillers, very apt for this season!

    • I ,on the contrary don’t wait for thrillers, but for flawed romances with some bad nepo acting. And not 1 or 2 but 3 such movies are coming this October:

Dono – written and directed by Sooraj R. Baarjatya’s son Avnish. Starring Sunny Deol’s son Rajveer amd Poonam Dhillon’s daughter Paloma. From the trailer I can say that Rajveer seems to be a better actor than his brother Karan. Paloma looks wooden.

Pyaar Hai Toh Hai – *ing singer Hariharan’s son Karan and Paanie Kashyap (not from those Kashyaps I think). It looks like my kind of movie, but I must admit, I hate this girl’s face.

Yaariyan 2 – the movie I’m most excited for. Meezan, Divya Khoshla Kumar and Pearl V. Puri, directed by our favourite Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru.

  9. What do you think of Farhan Akhtar’s recent quote in a Variety Article?

“Don 3” will see Ranveer Singh as the latest actor to take on the role. On the change of casting, Akhtar said, “I’m not in the position of replacing anybody. These are things that we discussed over the years, I wanted to take a certain direction with the story, somehow we just couldn’t find common ground. We just parted mutually knowing that it’s probably for the best. So that’s where it is,” Akhtar said.”

I feel like rather than diminishing the controversy around replacing SRK it adds to it. But then the last movie I heard of SRK rejecting, despite being directed by a friend, due to script writing, was Tees Maar Khan. And Tees Maar Khan was bad. Of course I’m sure he has rejected other movies, I just don’t know which ones were due to the script. And I don’t know that the script is the real reason he isn’t doing this movie. Scheduling conflicts sounded, if not realistic, less controversial.

    • Absolutely agree! There’s a reason people say “scheduling issues” and leave it at that, now I just have more questions. Maybe it will become clear once we see it? If Don is supposed to be super young, or super good, or anything that SRK would feel wasn’t consistent with his previous performances.

  10. ooh ooh I thought of another question! What are the best Indian movie song/videos to play while I’m cleaning the house?

But none of that perfect housewife working so hard crapy songs. I see those and it fills me with self loathing because I my house is never as clean, combined with self satisfaction because they usually show moms doing everything for their boys which is actually terrible terrrible parenting… I have never seen an Indian movie song showing moms doing everything for their daughters. So feel free to show me one of those, if you know of one.
