Weekend WatchAlong: Kuch Naa Kaho! 7pm Chicago time! LET’S DO THIS!!!!

Finally the actual watchalong post! It’s time! I got my dinner (butter chicken! I made it myself by pouring sauce from a jar onto chicken!) and I am very happy.

Kuch Naa Kaho

On Prime for rent, or other places! Hopefully we can all sync up because we WILL have costume comments and I want to make sure we are looking at/talking about the same costumes at the same time.

At 7pm Chicago time I will put up an “And PLAY” comment and we will all comment along from there. If you are late, just fastforward and catch up!

  1. You know what the titles feel like? 1960s Doris Day-Rock Hudson romances. And actually, the WHOLE MOVIE feels like that. A throwback fun 60s style misunderstanding falling in love.

  2. Wanna know something fascinating? The story writer also wrote Sir. And was married to Rohan Sippy, but I find the Sir fact much more interesting.

  3. Small plot point in the end, but the whole idea of Abhishek being the kind of hero who his cousin-sisters can trust to save them from a bad wedding is a great way to introduce him. Overly cool, overly western, but a good bro.

  4. Aw, they are wearing the same clothes! Jeans and knit top. Which I guess is what everyone wore in 2003, but also symbolic maybe?

  5. I can totally see how Rohan Sippy used Abhishek in this plot and then wrote came up with Bluffmaster for him. He is so good at conning the characters while the audience can see through him.

  6. Oh, another small plot point! It would not be unheard of for a father to say “it’s a good match, good family, things will work out after marriage” instead of saying “NO! My daughter deserves a man who loves her and isn’t gay!”

  7. Hmm. I’m not getting homophobia I think? More just anger at his daughter being tricked into an impossible marriage?

  8. She would have been better off if Aish was late, that outfit is TERRIBLE!!!! It’s not sparkly or tight enough, and it’s giving me pant suit vibes.

  9. What’s the feeling about Aish’s color combination? I like yellow and purple in theory, but I think this yellow is too sharp to work with the dusty purple.

  10. And it makes perfect sense that Aish is saying “looking at me makes you lose all your senses!” or “Who cares if I am arrogant about my beauty.”

  11. Also love that there is all this pressure and focus on getting Abhi married, but not on Nikki. I mean, she is getting married, but clearly this is an argument they’ve been having with Abhi for years and not with Nikki.

  12. I remember from other viewings that this scene doesn’t make sense. Satish has to be a little bit rude and hard on Aish to make the rest of the plot work, but this whole “I yell at you and won’t promote you” doesn’t work with the “you are like family!” attitude they have to her in the rest of the film.

    • I really didn’t take it as a real threat. He would have promoted her anyways. And I think if she had insisted on a no, Satish would have relented but we wouldn’t have gotten the rest of the movie.

      • Yeah, I’ll accept it for plot reasons. There has to be some sort of crazy situation to make her agree. And I also love that her boss’s family has embraced her so lovingly in every other scene.
