Finally the actual watchalong post! It’s time! I got my dinner (butter chicken! I made it myself by pouring sauce from a jar onto chicken!) and I am very happy.
Kuch Naa Kaho
On Prime for rent, or other places! Hopefully we can all sync up because we WILL have costume comments and I want to make sure we are looking at/talking about the same costumes at the same time.
At 7pm Chicago time I will put up an “And PLAY” comment and we will all comment along from there. If you are late, just fastforward and catch up!
Oh, Nikki ) : It is not your fault! But I like that she’s considerate.

This scene. Contrast it to when Abhi is in her bed. She is loose, she is relaxed. She is in her pajamas and doesn’t care. Look at her here!

That scene, when Arbaaz takes her home, on the first watch I thought it was a threat. But I think he legitimately was trying to be romantic. And she was just processing how very much she did NOT want him touching her any more.

Exactly! A complete contract to the scene 10 minutes ago with Abhi in her bed!

Oh man! There is much of this finale that is too tense for me, but then the one Aish speech I love. I will have to distract myself through it.

Arbaaz takes away her choice and get agency. Satish, Mom, and Abhi respect and fully support her choice! Because it is her decision at the end!
Abhi doesn’t brood like he did in the beginning of the movie when he thinks Aish chose to be with her husband. He has grown up! Again, the contrast in scenes is amazing!!!

Her* agency. not “get.”

This scene!!! He is a manipulative controlling A$$HOLE!!! He is emotionally abusive and you see that in every scene between Aish and Arbaaz.

Since Arbaaz came into the scene, Aish has said maybe 3 words. She is silent the ENTIRE time. He takes away her voice.

I’m back to wikipedia to distract myself. Abhi’s Mom actress is really interesting! She was a Pears soap model, then went to McGill in Canada to study soil microbiology, then was an assistant to Satyajit Ray on at least one film! She came back to acting after decades away in Hu Tu Tu and won a National Award. Oh, and she was Aish’s idiot Mom in Jodha Akbar. Remember? The one who was all “maybe you could run away! Oh wait, you can’t. Maybe you could kill yourself! Oh wait, you can’t. Oh well, just marry him”

Mom to the rescue AGAIN! Aish is worried. Mom immediately runs over to tell her that its okay, Abhi used to do the same thing we will find him! THE MOM IS THE BEST!!!!

And was also the Mom in Lagaan! And Dil Chahta Hai!

This mom scene with Aish is just sooo good. I can’t keep thinking about it. When the mom is worried about the kid, another mom immediately doesn’t care about the other stuff. She just wants to assure another mom that its okay and we will find her son. Because no matter what is happening in the parent’s life, if the kid is in danger, that is all that matters!

I deeply appreciate the costume choice to just straight up put Arbaaz in all black. He is a BAD MAN. At least, by this point in the film. Aish still got to make a choice between options in the previous scenes, but this scene shows he hasn’t changed at all. BAD MAN.

YES! I thought we even discussed this at one point. Abhi is in all white and Arbaaz is in all black!

The Nikki actress was in Pinjar! I have no memory of her there. I do remember her in Chalte Chalte though.

Abhi’s conversation with the kid in their hiding place. He gets to his level. Explains it in a way that he understands. He is honest but so sincere and genuine. Contrast this to the time he was brooding because he thought Aish was married. I LOVE THIS ARC!!!

The middle sister actress was Karan Singh Grover’s second wife. Between Shraddha Nigam and Bips.

Satish jumps in and apologizes to Arbaaz not because he gives a $hit about him but because he supports Aish’s choice!!!!

Okay, now I can pay attention again. Thank goodness, I was running out of people to google.

THIS SPEECH. Best ending speech about a abusive relationship outside of the one from the end of Aakash Vaani!!!

Great speech and all that, but kind of making Nikki’s wedding day all about you. I hope Nikki announces she’s pregnant or something at Aish and Abhi’s wedding just to get back at them.

And she does this all publicly because if he can publicly humiliate her, then she can humiliate him the same way!

Gee Arbaaz, way to further traumatize your bio-son. He never gets to see you again, again?

Oh oh! Great ending credits here.

Again, I love that when Aish finally speaks up and tells Arbaaz to get lost, he listens. He is a terrible human being but he isn’t a caricature! This is exactly what someone should do.

Yeah, but maybe leave an email behind or something? For when Adi inevitably has questions?

It sounded like his parents were her family and she grew up around them. Dil Toh Pagal Hai style. So she probably knows all she needs to know and frankly, the kid is better off without an abusive father in his life.

Well that was lovely! And I still managed to do two loads of laundry and feed the upstairs cats! And now I could, theoretically, go to bed a reasonable hour. But I probably won’t.

I am debating whether I should go to bed or watch Yodha with Sid or Crakk with Vidyut Jaamwal.
