So, quick review: Catnip for Farhan fans (I know you are out there), Hollywood style/quality camerawork and directing, great songs, script needs a couple more twists to really send it over the top.
Longer review, see below. And I will probably also be posting a synopsis in the next few days, it’s only an hour forty, I can totally knock that out in just one part.
So, I just re-watched Baazigar, as part of my SRKajol project. And then I watched this. And I have also been on a Law and Order kick. So, what I’m saying is, Wazir has fewer twists and less plots than Baazigar, but more than a standard Law and Order episode. So it’s just not good in either direction.
It’s almost good! It’s so close to good! I just needed like one more twist on a twist, to make it truly unpredictable and jaw-dropping and Abbas-Mustan-like in its quality. Or, if it had one less twist, and was just sincerely touching, that would have worked too. But as it is, too many twists to be straight-up sincere, too few to be straight up twisted.
Besides the plot, though, everything else was really perfection. Farhan was super good, very restrained and sincere, able to carry the whole weight of the film. Amitabh was used just right, a sort of contrast wall to the solid beige that was Farhan. The visuals, as I said, were very good.
Overall, it is one of those films that I would say were made in India but are not an Indian-film. Remember how I talked about how Bajirao was unIndian? Because it removed some of the essential elements of Indian film? Wazir isn’t unIndian like that.
Instead of being a not-Indian film, I would say Wazir is a Hollywood style film. It replaced the Indian style and structure entirely with the American, rather than just removing a few elements to make it more palatable to an outside audience, but not bothering to put in the effort to live up to the standards of an American film (yes, I am still talking about you, Bajirao. I just really hate you and I cannot let it go).
But what about JOHN ABRAHAM!!!
