LOC Kargil: More Patriotic Sentiments!

(Part 1 here)

After a brief break for lunch and recovery from an overdose of patriotism, I continue!  This movie really does have the best heroic lines in it.  I’m not even Indian, and its getting me all caught up in it!

Definitely getting more and more pumped for Airlift, especially since Akshay Kumar is about the only star who did NOT get to play a real life Indian hero in LOC Kargil.  So it’s nice he is getting his chance now!

(Spoiler: The best quote of all is dead silence)

DURGA MATAJI JAI!!!!! (Sunil Shetty, storming up hill towards the enemy)

“You were close to Ajay, yes?  You two have to prove, that a friend can die, but a friendship cannot!  By capturing point 5140, the place where those Bastards are hiding!”

[Ajay Devgn, to a soldier under his command who is trying to kill himself because his brother in law drowned crossing the river the previous day] “‘I can understand your pain.  But you are a brave Gurkha!  If you want to die, than kill and die!  Take revenge from that enemy who has turned your sister into a widow.  Go.  Take the gun and shoot the enemy, not yourself.  Any questions?!?'”  “‘No, Sir!'”

[Saif is giving his engagement ring into the keeping of his commanding officer] “The token of love is very heavy.  I can’t bear its weight and die.”

[Abhishek’s good-bye to his girl] “Either I will put the tricolor on the ice peaks, or I will be covered in it.  But either way, I will return to you!”

[Another Sanjay Dutt pep-talk] “Everyone will look after the one who is ahead of you.  And you will be looked after by the one who is behind you.  And God will look after all of you.  Whichever God you know, God, Allah, or Wahe Guru.  Friends, have some faith in God!  Hit the enemy hard, and good luck.  I will be ahead of all of you all the way, and I will come down with you when it is over!”

“Friends, we will win.  God is with us.  We are strong.  Hail God!” (Kabir Bedi is more minimalist in his pep talks)

[Farewell from commanding officer who has Saif’s ring to Saif] “‘Anuj, I have your ring, it is your possession.  It will be yours again.  Come back and wear it with your own hands.  Promise me that’ ‘Promises are made in heaven sir.’ ‘This is heaven.  Our country.  Promise me.’ ‘I promise sir.'”

[Explaining how they accomplished a surprise attack] “Our soldiers wound green cloth on their helmets and climbed up, praising Allah.  When we ran out of green cloth, we tore it from the bottom of our tricolor.  The enemy does not understand, there are more Muslims in India than in Pakistan, and they are Indians first and Muslims second!”

“I am coming, wait, you bastards!” [Manoj Bajpai, to the fleeing Pakistanis, after his best friend is killed]

“AAAAARRRGGHHHHH!!!!” (Sanjay Dutt, removing the bayonet from his rifle, leaping down on and stabbing three guys in a machine gun nest, then wiping the blood off the blade on his sleeve)

[A Pakistani soldier is taunting Ajay, who responds thusly] “I will tell you whether I have come to kill or to die.  I have made a coffin ready for you!  Search for a place to hide from Manoj Pandey!  You won’t find a place in all of Pakistan.

[Pakistani soldier is taunting a pinned down Abhishek] “‘Maybe if you send us Madhuri Dixit, we will go back’ ‘Maybe we will send you coffins instead’ [With no other option, Abhishek launches a one man attack on their position, killing them all, as he screams] ‘From Madhuri, with love!’ [as he advances on the second position, despite being shot a million times] ‘DURGA MATAJI JAI!'”

“dead silence punctuated by quiet grunts” (Ajay Devgn as he realizes he is out of bullets, pulls out his gurkha knife, runs into the enemy’s position, pulls a tent down on top of them, stabs them all, walks away, is shot by more enemies, pulls out his last grenade, throws it out them, and then slowly dies while thinking of his mother)
