Well, Dishoom is the one that came out today, but so long as we are talking about that, might as well talk about Te3n and Sultan too.
Dishoom! John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, and Jacqueline Fernandez. And lots and lots of pandering to the Middle East market.
Is it that that market has really grown in the past couple years, or is it that I’ve just started noticing post-Happy New Year and Airlift? Anyway, I am IN for this movie! Partly because it looks like another odd couple semi-comic action movie in the vein of the Dhoom films or, well, Sholay! And I always love those. And I am in because Varun is always better than I give him credit for.
And I am DEFINITELY in because Akshaye gets to play a villain! I LOVE villain Akshaye! I mean, I love Akshaye in general, but when he really goes all out and makes the faces and tosses off the evil one-lines, than I really really love him!
And then there’s Te3n. Incredible cast, Vidya, Amitabh, and Nawazuddin all acting opposite each other. Kind of dark though. Both literally (is there just never any sunshine in this city?), and metaphorically, considering the plot revolves around the murder of a child.
Vidya’s the cop, Amitabh’s the avenging grandfather, Nawazuddin is, what? Just a helpful priest? Or something more? I think we are all assuming there is going to be some devestating twist, but it could be that Nawazuddin is the criminal, or it could be that Amitabh has arranged an elaborate trap. Heck, maybe Amitabh kidnapped the new kid just to re-open his granddaughter’s case! That would be cool. Oh, and Amitabh is singing one of the songs, which is a guarenteed way to make me cry. Something about how his voice resonates just gets to me. Well, except for the “B ‘n B” rap. That does not make me cry.
And, finally, new Sultan video! For a song. All the songs are available now for listening to, but I am trying to remain “unspoiled” until the video trailers for them all are released, and so far there is just this one.
So, Salman isn’t moving quite and smoothly and easily as he has in the past. But the moves aren’t bad, and he is all bulked up for the wrestling bits, so I can see why his torso and knees might be basically immobile. Love the conflict-y vibe between the two. Very reminiscent of “Number 1 Punjabi”, which is one of my favorite Salman songs.
I’m so excited for Dishoom, too! The chemistry looks great, and I agree with you — Akshaye as a villlain! I’m in!!

Plus, it’s been a while since we had a big stupid release with lots of action and item songs! I need my summer time-pass film!

Saw the trailer for Ragav 2.0 last week. Looks as though it will be menacing..

Gah! Too scary! Also, after Bombay Velvet, it’s going to take a lot more than Nawazuddin Siddiqui to get me back into an Anurag kashyap movie.

Interesting, India is doing so many more Korean inspired movies lately. I wonder if it is because the Korean movies are getting better, and more widely distributed, or because Hollywood is cracking down harder on the unofficial remakes so they can’t use those stories any more? Probably a combination of the two.

NO WAY!!! I just googled it, and it is a remake!!! How is that POSSIBLE?!?!? The trailer played like such a light-hearted silly comedy! The only thing that seems similar is the rescue of the athlete, which isn’t even shown in Mumbai Police, just talked about. If it is a faithful remake, there are going to be a lot of shocked and angry ticket buyers who came in for the light-hearted action comedy from Rohan Dhawan and got something COMPLETE DIFFERENT!!!
Also, in that case, who the heck is Akshaye Khanna going to be playing? I’M SO CONFUSED!!!

i think they want to hide the fact that its a remake…because everything depends on the climax twist….and if the online mallus reveal it to others everything will be ruined

I appreciate you being careful about it! I’d hate for someone to get spoiled before hand. Although, if they do want to get spoiled, they can always hunt out my review! I’ll have to see if I get more traffic in the next few days 🙂
