I always feel bad about how the resolution to things is usually not reported. There’s the initial exciting incident or court case or rumor, and then months later when it is actually resolved, nobody pays attention because they have moved on to a new rumor or incident or whatever. So today I am going to try to fix that and report 3 separate resolutions to old stories.
First, Sara Khan is NOT making her debut in Student of the Year 2 and/or opposite Shahid’s little brother. Amrita came out with a statement clarifying that Sara was never officially offered either part, so how could she turn them down? Plus, Sara is still completing her studies, in England with her brother. Although she is planning on being an actress at some point, there is nothing on the books as of this moment.
Of course, we don’t have to believe Amrita (and isn’t it interesting that Amrita is the designated spokesperson? Not Sara herself, or her father?), but I do believe that at least those two films that were rumored earlier aren’t happening. Maybe they were planned and then shelved, so the never-even-on-the-table part of it is a lie, but I don’t see any advantage to issuing this firm denial if the news is going to break in a few weeks that they are actually happening.
Amrita was a little less firm in how she addressed the rumors that she doesn’t like Sara’s closeness with Kareena, saying;
Let me tell you, today’s kids have a mind of their own, and they know how to exercise it. Even if I wanted to tell Sara or my son Ibrahim how to lead their lives—which I don’t, they would not listen to me.
Okay, so that’s not exactly a “Kareena is a wonderful co-parent and a good role model for my children”.
In other follow up news, Om Puri has issued a statement apologizing for his nutty TV appearance. Unfortunately, the statement itself is also pretty nutty.
“I am very embarrassed at what I said and I deserve punishment, not forgiveness. I first apologize to his (an Uri attack martyr) family, if at all they will forgive me, I apologize to the whole country, the army. I know it’s not justified that you say so much and then think a sorry will make it right. I am guilty and I deserve a punishment. I want to be tried by the army, I should be court-martialled. I want a constructive punishment. The army should teach me how to use weapons and send me on the same site where that brave man has sacrificed himself for the country. I don’t want to be forgiven. I am pleading to the nation I want to be punished.”
Do I mean “unfortunately”? It sounds like Om might be having some serious problems (addiction, dementia, some other mental disorder), which normally means he would have my sympathy. But as mentioned yesterday, I haven’t liked Om for years, so I kind of don’t have that much sympathy for him and am just enjoying the show.
And finally, Shahrukh is cleared in the Wankhede stadium police case! You remember, when he went a little insane on a security guard who was trying to stop access for Suhana and her friends to the field? To me, it always looked like another case of “he crossed the line a little, but if he had been just a regular person and not a movie star no one would have cared” kind of behavior. Wankhede cleared him and lifted his ban last year, and now the police have cleared him as well, determining that “he was neither drunk nor had he used an abusive language in front of the minors”.
