My Busy Saturday! (Dog Hazel Photo Alert)

Sorry, I haven’t been posting anything, and I probably won’t be posting anything for a while yet. But I can tell you why I won’t be posting! That should entertain you.

Remember my elaborate plan for the 4 day Thanksgiving weekend? Rearranging my whole apartment and stuff? It is continuing apace! And it is wearing me out!

Day 1 (Thanksgiving itself), I cleared all the paperback books off my shelves, sorted them into keep and send to my sister piles, then moved a shelf into the bedroom and put books on that and back on the one living room shelf, and moved the other shelf that used to have hair things and jewelry out of the bedroom. And then I had to stop and get ready for fancy dinner with Grandpa.

(Dog Hazel had a terrible day, all these things put on her sofa, and she just kept trying to snuggle down and hide in her little pillow forts)

Day 2 (yesterday), I emptied another shelf of DVDs (the time has come to rip them to hard drives and put them in storage), then moved the shelf out to the middle of the living room by the other bedroom shelf, then successfully moved the million pound desk from one side of the apartment to the other, to live where the bookshelf used to be. Then I took apart the two bookshelves, and then my Dad came by and helped me take them down to the car to go live in the family storage unit, where we picked up my grandmother’s million pound armchair (high quality family heirloom furniture=very very heavy), brought that back to my apartment, carried it up three flights of stairs, and then I said goodbye to Dad and immediately took a long hot bath in a failed attempt to stave off a sore back. And then read a romance novel (the billionaire fell in love with the struggling single mother! Who would have thought! And it all happened at Christmas) and went to sleep.

(Also, be very impressed at the car packing skills of my father which managed to get an entire armchair into the back of the station wagon, plus a box of books and a floor lamp)

Day 3 (today), this was the errands day. Got up, moved the armchair into position, cleared stuff off the couch, took the slipcovers off the couch, took the dog for a walk and dropped off laundry bag of slipcovers in the car on the way, came back and told the dog “goodbye”, then carried a big box of books and my two area rugs and the laptop bag I had to return down to the car. Then off to the gym to try to cancel my membership (hardest task first). Only, there was a Marshall’s next to the gym so first I stopped in their and ended up buying way too much because it was all so cheap and festive!

(Yes, I bought Dog Hazel a Christmas Sweater. And collar!!!)

Then gym, where I was told I can only cancel a membership between 9 and 5 Monday through Friday. Then from Gym to the post office, mailed my sister her enormous box of paperbacks. Then off to the rug place, where they were very friendly and an extremely old man customer told me I was pretty, rugs will be ready to pick up next week. Then off to the mall. Where I hit a horrible sort of sucking black hole of retail, waited in line forever at one place, told to go somewhere else. Got lost, found it, told that wasn’t the right place either, went to the third place which was coincidentally right at the door where I came in so I could have been done ages ago, got stuck in line behind one person none of whose receipts were scanning so all 4 returns had to be done by hand, finally finished.

(It was like this only instead of 5 minutes seeming like a lifetime because I was falling in love, 20 minutes seemed like a lifetime because I was stuck at a mall the weekend after Thanksgiving)

And off to Best Buy to pick up my online order of an external hard drive and a DVD reader (for the above mentioned project of finally digitizing my DVDs). Another long wait in line, and then confirmed that this Best Buy had my DVD reader, but there was a whole other Best Buy that had my external hard drive and the computer said it was ready and waiting for me there.

(You know how Ranbir had to travel the world finding his old loves? That’s just what I was doing, only it was with computer electronics and Best Buy stores)

Then across the parking lot to the grocery store!!!! Bought cookies for the church group I am hosting tomorrow and sparkling cider for that and for funsies. Also, an apple pie because it was on sale and I had pumpkin for dinner on Thursday and I still miss apple. And eggnog and milk and eggs and Bombay Mix chat (so much better than Madras mix! And this is the weird grocery store that always has it in really big bags). But the best part was, I found the mystery milk! Months ago I finished a bottle of milk and then went back to get my bottle deposit and discovered it was some weird brand of milk that wasn’t sold anywhere so I couldn’t get my bottle deposit back. I have been carrying the bottle around in the back of my car since then looking for this mystery milk brand in every store and there it was! FINALLY! I get my $1.50 back. HA!

(You know how Shahrukh lost Rani’s phone number and had to spend weeks looking for her? That’s exactly what I was doing trying to figure out what grocery store carries this brand of milk)

From the grocery, looked up the closest laundromat and off to the second to last stop, a laundromat where I could put my couch slipcovers in one of those really big machines and let it just chug away while I read my book (new romance novel, a literal angel falls to earth at Christmas time). Laundry done, through that back in the car, and zipped off to the last stop, the second Best Buy. No line, but that just meant I was told very quickly that my order was not, in fact, ready. And they had no idea when it would be.

(Me, learning the external hard drive that I thought was meant for me in fact belonged to someone else and I had to wait another life time to get it)

And now I am finally home. After somehow managing to carry up three flights in one load an enormous laundry bag of heavy slipcovers and three grocery bags with milk, two bottles of sparkling apple cider, one bottle of regular cider, a bottle of eggnog, and regular food too. My back and shoulders are now both very unhappy. But good news is, the slip covers are draped around drying, and I am eating $5 grocery store sushi that was sitting in the car for an hour (I am sure it is fine). Life’s good!

(I’m feeling very much this. Either because I have exerted myself that I am a little light headed, or the sushi has turned, or I’m just feeling relieved to have accomplished so much)

Update: per request, here is a photo of my new chair

    • Yeah, I’m pretty impressed seeing it all written out! I still have to clean and rearrange the apartment, and put up the decorations, but I’ve got until 2 tomorrow (when the church group comes over), so I think I am fine.

  1. You did more in those 3 days than I in like 1 month 😉
Hazel looks co cute in this sweater. Did she collaborate when you dressed her? Or she is one of those animals who hate clothes? She doesn’t look like one of them.
And can you please share a photo of your new armchair? I’m curious.

    • So tolerated, but did not enjoy, putting on the sweater. The color she didn’t seem to notice. So I may save the sweater for special occasions, and put the color on all December.

  2. That seems to be a cosy one (the armchair). Well, Dog Hazel might appreciate the sweater more outside in the freezing cold than inside in the warm appartment 😉 anyways, it’s a nice one.
