Wednesday Watching: What Are You Watching and Reading and Thinking and Listening To the Last Week of April? (remember, most comments in April gets a poster!)

Happy Wednesday! Boy, this week is just crawling by for some reason. Probably because one of my co-workers is sick so work has been a bit busy.

I’ll start!

Watching: Murder She Wrote is on Amazon Prime! Murder She Wrote is on Amazon Prime! That’s not a typo, I’m just so excited I have to say it twice. Really, if you haven’t watched it before in your life, now is the time to try. And then once everyone is caught up, I can repost my remake idea and this time folks will actually care.

Reading: Will you judge me if I say “not much”? It’s nice out! I don’t want to read!

Thinking: There are no Hindi movies coming out for like 2 weeks! This is so weird! What will I do with my Fridays?

Listening: I’ve got my ipod on shuffle, just for the excitement of not knowing what’s coming next. And it’s just confirming that Penn Masala is THE BEST. Every single one of their songs that pops up is good.

Now, question! A really tricky one!!!! I’m taking Albie Dog in to the vet this morning to answer the question “pink eye or allergies?” Place your bets now!

Here is a cute squinty long distance photo:

And here is the terrifying close-up:

Now, tell me all about what you are watching and what neat articles/books/blog posts you read elsewhere and what you are thinking about and listening to! And if my dog has pink eye or allergies (please please allergies! I don’t want to put drops in the eyes of a wriggly puppy 3 times a day). And remember, the most comments by the end of the month gets this beautiful poster:

Oh heck, here’s a bonus question just in case you still need something to talk about besides my dog’s gross eyes: Shahrukh still hasn’t announced his next film, what do you want him to do next? What genre, what co-star, what kind of role? Anything is possible!

I want him in a non-romantic and non-action role. Playing something entirely intellectual, detective or artist or journalist or something.

  1. Allergies!

Next for Shah Rukh: either a detective story, private eye or long suffering cop, or a thriller, supernatural or not. I wouldn’t mind him playing an out and out negative character with no shades of gray. A psychopathic corporate raider or serial killer or something. I bet he never will though.

Thinking: how will I keep up with work–I have a crazy Spring and Summer coming up, with tons of travel for work. It will be fun, but so so so busy. Also thinking: how can I win the cuddly poster of Shah Rukh? Chubby Shah Rukh with whiskey is, like, all I need in life. Well, fantasy life anyway. Are you open to bribery?

I’m going to Hyderabad at the end of June (yay!) and thinking about a lil pilgrimage to Mumbai and Mannat. The challenge will be timing. Flights run about $45.

    • Yaaay for Hyderabad! I would give you a list of movies to buy, but DVDs are dying, so it is pointless.

No bribery, but you can try breaking your comments up a bit. This one, for instance, could easily have been 3 separate ones. You gotta think strategically!

Ooo, supernatural would be good! Like a noir, no romance for him or anything, all intellectual, but a little more spectacular than just solving a mystery. I’d love to see him as the grey old wise man that the young hero consults after the young heroine is possessed by demons or whatever.

And I will wait and see if anyone else has any guesses before I reveal the answer I just got from the vet for poor Albie Dog.

  2. Poor Albie!
    I hope it’s nothing serious.
For Shah Rukh, I hope his next movie won’t be Mersal, or negative role in tamil movie. I would love him in something like Drishtokone – sexy lawer in well-fitting suit solving a mistery.
Or some family drama, similar to Dear zindagi

    • Now that it is towards the end of the day, I will reveal that it was good old pink eye, very common for dogs (because they are gross). Just means I have to wrestle him down twice a day to get drops in his eyes.
Funny you thought of a well-fitting suit solving a mystery, my sister’s thought was Columbo, so a poor fitting suit solving a mystery.

I’d also love to see him in a more complex non-romantic family drama. Like, something revolving around a custody dispute, maybe he is the grumpy grandpa who can’t relate to his grieving grandchildren and they slowly come together.

  3. I saw Music Teacher on Netflix, and I don’t know, maybe it’s because I had very high expectations (it looked like 100% my kind of film) or because I wasn’t well, but I was disappointed. It’s visually stunning, Divya Dutta great as always, other actors also very, very good, but I didn’t love it.
Still I recommend it, because it’s good and the actors should be seen.

    • Watch Dishoom! I scheduled it for Sunday partly just to force you to see it. Not a Divya Dutta movie at all, but John is very big and muscular in it.

      • I will try but it can be difficult because my son has Easter holiday and if he is at home I don’t have much time to watch movies. Music Teacher is only 100 minutes long and I was watching it 4 days.

        • Dishoom is only 124 minutes and really really dumb, so you can probably pay it less attention. But if you can’t make it, no worries, you can catch it whenever and just come back and comment on the review then!

    • Pink eye. Because dogs are disgusting. He is already much much better after just one day of drops, but I have to keep it up for 5 more days.

  4. Poor Albie! He looks so squinty.
I was just about to give my Hoichoi (Bengali streaming) subscription up and I got sucked into a series called Dhaka Metro. I was watching at first because of all the scenes of Dhaka, some of which I’m pretty sure must have been shot there. Then it went out into Bangladesh and is now taking place in some nondescript place that is probably really a suburb of Kolkata. And the plot is trying a little too hard to be edgy. It’s about a guy who decides to run away from his unhappy life as a rich guy in Dhaka all of a sudden, and runs into a bunch of random people on the road, but it’s supposed to be a bit creepy and not heartwarming. But there’s a cute chubby kid in it so it’s kind of heartwarming.

And while I’m running out the Hoichoi subscription I also watched Bisorjon, a movie about an impoverished Bangladeshi widow who runs across a stranded sailor from India and they have a doomed romance. This one is a bit different from the other ones I’ve been watching in that it actually has a plot which mixes romance and tragedy and a bit of humor and it’s much more mainstream. I quite liked it.

Maybe you’ve heard there that our emperor is abdicating and his son being crowned? That will take place over the next week, and we get the whole week off. I’ll be working for most of it, but looking forward to seeing a few more movies than I usually have time for, because I won’t collapse in exhaustion at 8 every night. So, we’ll be breaking in the Zee5 subscription with Simmba and Bareilly ki Barfi, I hope. Also have Manmarziyan on Eros and maybe Delhi Crime on Netflix, just so I can use all my streaming services.

For Shahrukh: we’ve talked extensively about a mature romance with an age-appropriate partner, and I’m holding out hope for that.

    • So, is the new Emperor going to be the one with the awesome very stressed modern wife? I worry about her.

And yes, you should watch all those movies! And also Made in Heaven. And then come back here and give me your opinions on them.

      • Forgot about Made in Heaven! Yes, I’ll probably be getting enough sleep to be able to cope with a lot of Japanese subtitles. (Netflix subtitles everything in English, but Amazon doesn’t). When I come home after a long day, I really don’t want to read Japanese.

Yes, Princess Masako the stressed wife will become Empress. We all worry about her, but her husband has been a mensch about defending her to awful people who blame her for only having one kid who is a girl. So I have hope for them.

        • I’m glad I’m not the only one worrying about her! And that her husband is still being nice. Now that I think about it, I kind of want her and Varun’s girlfriend Natasha to hang out together. They seem similarly stressed.

So looking forward to your take on Made in Heaven!
