Great year for beautiful meaningful songs. Not so great for the other songs, the bouncy ones. But we will make-do!
“Dhan Te Nan” from Kaminey. No question, best party song of 2009. Possibly best song over all of 2009.
“Chiggy Wiggy” from Blue. Remember when Kylie Minogue did a song with Akshay Kumar and it was actually really catchy?
“Emotional Attyachar” from Dev.D. I don’t like it myself, but it is so universally loved and revered, I just assume I am missing something.
“Marjaani” from Billu. This one I used to not love, but now I do! It’s so happy and bright and fun.
“Chor Bazari” from Love Aaj Kal. It just feels like it is trying slightly too hard, if it weren’t it would be the perfect song.
“Hadippa” from Dil Bole Hadippa. I may be the only person who really remembers this song, but it’s really good, right?
“Zoobi Doobi” from 3 Idiots. I just don’t like this song, I think it is repetitive and ultimately tiresome. But still catchy at first and with really fun visuals.
For myself Dhan Te Nan would probably be second to Emotional Attyachar. The beats for me are better in it than in the former. Apparently Emotional Attyachar was meant to be the kind of song you sung when you were drunk with friends, at least according to something I read long ago, so I might be mistaken.

That makes total sense for Emotional Attachyar, and also why it does not work for me (I’ve never been drunk).

I dislike a chiggy wiggy, but love all the other ones.

Oh good! And thanks for reminding me of this post, I may need to return to it as I plow through Thanksgiving cooking.

Mardaani and Chor Bazari are fine. I still don’t know why people like Zoobi Doobi so much. It’s annoying.

Thank you! Another person who isn’t in love with Zoobi Doobi.

Honestly, most of the music from 3 Idiots is kind of underwhelming. Except maybe All Is Well.

Oh that reminds me, I need to do a “what was the song of the year in 2009?” post. Tough choice between Aal Izz Well, Dhan Te Nan, and Emotional Attachyar.

The only one I know of those three is Aal Izz Well, so I’m going with that one.

Pretty good sign, if 10 years later it is the only one you know.
