Hindi Film 101: Shahid Kapoor, the Actor Who Fell Backwards Into Fame

Shahid Kapoor is SO FASCINATING!!! His career reflects the changing guard of Indian film for the past 2 decades more than anyone else I can think of. And those changes are so vast that much of what he has been through in his career has disappeared, as people cannot even conceive of how things used to be. And, coincidentally, I scheduled reviews of two 2009 Shahid movies for today, so it is a good day for it.

If I didn’t know where Imtiaz was heading, I would find this both better and worse. As in, I can watch it and see the hints of the irritating passive hero of Tamasha, but also the brilliant deep romance of Jab Harry Met Sejal. It’s an interesting one to look back on!

Most Powerful Songs of 2009, of Any Genre, Ranked

I already did kind of a lead up post to this, the general emotional songs that don’t fit any standard genre (sad song, love song, etc.). 2009 Week: Dev.D, Any Other Year This Would Have Been the Most Important Film

Devdas adaptations are always important, kind of a barometer for where India is right now and what issues surround the country. Plus, this was the film that announced Anurag Kashyap as a real true talent to watch. But on the other hand, 2009 was such an amazing year, I don’t know if it really can be limited to just Dev.D even as amazing and important as Dev.D is.
