Happy Birthday Sid M! In Which Movie Were You Prettiest?

Oh Sid! I really liked you, and then I forgot about you, and somehow now I have come to love you again. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Important question! In all of Sid M’s short career, which film made him look prettiest?

Personally, I think I am going for Baar Baar Dekho. Old, but not too old yet.

  1. Sid is much more my kind of pretty than Hrithik. Hrithik is like a Ken doll – objectively I understand but I still don’t get it.
Sid in A Gentleman and Ittefaq tops for me. I loved A Gentleman so much. I was dying for rumors of Raj DK doing a movie with SRK but it seems to have faded away with the rest of the rumors.

      • I loved him when he became a slightly tougher version of his domesticated self. And that last scene with Jackie when he sorta proposes .. faint. The movie needed a little more romance and a little less action

  2. Hasee Toh Phasee – I hate the movie but will never forget how good Sid looked especially in a bright suit he was wearing

    • I would have thought HTP is a classic Angie movie! What didn’t you like about it?

      • Yes, Isn’t it? On paper it looked like something I would absolutely love: Not very attractive, but very smart girl makes a hot & nice guy fall in love with her. Plus some more serious stuff like she being rejected by her family etc. A perfect mix. Unfortunately the movie had some things I hated so much: Parineeti strange acting as a drug addict (it was my first Pari movie ever and I was absolutely open minded and positive, it was only later when I was thinking about it I found it annoying) and the fact that the movie (IMO) confirmed what Pari’s family was saying – smart girls can’t be trusted. A girl too intelligent and educated is trouble. It’s better to have a nice daughter who thinks about clothes and girly stuff than an smart one.

    • Personality always makes you more attractive. And is a real concern with someone like Sid who is capable of skating by on looks!

  3. Another vote for Sid in A Gentleman. He was handsome in Kapoor & Sons but acting opposite Fawad was just a bad career choice and a bad life choice in general.

But let’s talk real talk: he’s totally involved with Karan, isn’t he? I saw them in a group photo at a Dilwale party and Karan had his hand draped on Sid’s shoulders and my Spidey sense went off like a klaxon horn. And then I googled and found out there’s been rumors about them for years.

    • See, here’s my thing. There’ve been rumors of them together for years and years. But Karan in his memoir very specifically talked about Sid as an adoptive son more than anything else. And I am overly cautious and super uncomfortable with turning any male-male relationship romantic just because one of them is gay, especially if it is a foster father kind of situation. Personally I would be very happy if they were together, because Karan deserves happiness and Sid is hot. But I also don’t want to say it, because if it isn’t true it’s a terribly hurtful and a little bit gay bashing thing to say. So I am in a quandary!

Totally agree that Kapoor & Sons was a mistake though. I can see why he took the part, it was a really good role for him in isolation. It’s just once Fawad was added to the mix, his characters whole Thing became much less interesting, and Sid seemed much less beautiful.

  4. Student of the Year and Hasee toh Phasee! I watched them at the same time and remember thinking “Wow! I haven’t seen a guy this hot since Hrithik!” Which is also why I refuse to ever watch Marjaavaan because why why why would you make Sid look unattractive in a movie??!!!

    • And EK Villain had the same plot without making him un-hot! Sometimes tortured gangsters use hair gel.

  5. Nothing beats that entrance in Student of the year, but I agree that its Hah toh Phasee. Rumors about him and Karan? Really. Improbable. Sid can do way better and I’m sure sleeping his way to the top is not his plan.

    • Aw, don’t be mean to Karan! He’s a sweetheart. And Sid could be good for him, he is a hardworker but not ambitious for power, he could be a nice supportive partner.

        • Yes, definitely. Karan is a charming attractive man, and I don’t think he plays the casting couch game. There’s always that “power is an aphrodisiac” effect, but beyond that I don’t imagine a power imbalance as any part of his possible relationship with really any partner.

  6. Sid in his Koffee with Karan episode with varun and alia. That’s the first time I saw or even heard of him. I was astounded, floored, by his beauty. Since then, to me he looks good in every film, and he has aged well, but somehow his looks are more model-perfect & symmetrical than interesting, which has the effect of making his looks increasingly boring & predictable (& thus forgettable) over repeated exposure. Which is why I picked the first exposure as the best. Also, I think he entered the industry a bit late – wasn’t he already 26-28 in SOTY? – so by now he might already be looking a bit aged to most people.

    • He also looked shockingly good that day, I just looked up a picture:

I think you are right though, it is the impact of the first look, for me it was his SOTY intro and I was sure he was going to be the next big thing after that.

He was a little older in his launch, but the same age as Varun. I think Sid is one of those people where it is all about the weight. If he gains just slightly too many pounds, his face goes from “handsome, sensitive, open” to “dull”. If he ages into someone who gets skinnier as he gets older, then it is all hotness for all time.

  7. My friend actually asked me this yesterday, and my answer was very thorough, considering I’m a little bit obsessed with Sid and I think he’s one of the most attractive men on the planet, regardless of race. I think he looks good pretty much all the time.

I’m straying from the majority and my vote is going to Kapoor & Sons. I agree that of the main cast, his performance was the worst. But this question is simply about attractiveness, and I think in that movie, he looked full on dreamy. Love his haircut, love what the lighting did for him, just a bit of scruff, not too much, and the way they dressed him, his whole demeanor made him seem insanely attractive but also really approachable. And very cute and snuggly and soft.

A Gentleman is probably second place, since my friend brought that up as well, but really only Rishi does it for me, Gaurav not so much. Particularly the scene where he has sex with Jacqueline.

SOTY would be it if he didn’t look so young looking back, and if my sister hadn’t referred to him as a twink and now I can’t see it. HTP would be it if the lighting design didn’t make him look washed out while also weirdly yellow? Ek Villain would be it if it wasn’t for the tattoos. Baar Baar Dekho would be it, but something about the part and swoop of his hair is throwing me. Jabariya Jodi would be it if he didn’t wear these terrible aviators for a good portion of the movie. Marjaavaan would be it if his hair was just a TAD shorter, didn’t curl up as much at the ends, and if he kept the bandanna on the entire time.

Also WHAT is this conversation about him being involved with KARAN JOHAR??? That is so disgusting, I’m sorry. Sid got his start under Karan’s wing, both through SOTY and MNIK as an AD. They definitely have some sort of mentor/teacher/student-esque relationship, and anything else beyond that is creepy and uncomfortable in my opinion.

    • Thank you for weighing in with detailed expert opinions!

As for Karan-Sid M., I used to kind of like them as a couple and think they were cute together. But after reading Karan’s memoir, I’ve swung more around to your “no, the idea is kind of gross” feeling. Karan is so clear that the SOTY kids, all three of them, really are “his” kids. And secondly talks about how hurtful it is that he can’t be seen to have a close friendship with any man without the media jumping to the conclusion they must be a couple.
