Happy Wednesday! This comes to you from home, where I am stuck indefinitely, but I have a plan and I think I can make this work out!
I’ll start!
Reading: Finishing up my Evanovich, and then my sister recommended a book by Robert Crais, Suspect. Apparently there is a lot of narration from the dogs POV.
Thinking: Plan for surviving working from home without going insane! I’ll have an activity at 5 every day to mark the end of the day(today, I walk over to the store and buy eggs), I’ll actually take a lunch break and go into another room, and I have a workspace set up already that even works as a standing desk. Watching: I am just cranking through Hart of Dixie, it is the perfect happy pleasant background show. And I finally finished my 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle! See picture below:

I’m so lucky with movies lately. This week I saw not one but 2 movies I loved.
First a movie perfect for bad girls month: The heroine is the most important person in the story and she is introduced while driving car. Some guys follow her on bike and harrass her, and what does he do? Stops the car and beats them all with baseball bat. I loved it. Later she finds a job (and is better in it than her male co-worker), finds a guy who loves her as she is, they marry and later she fights her evil sisters in law. There is also other strong girl in the movie, who works and contiues working even after the marriage (despite of her mother in law being contrary). Both heroines don’t allow others to tell them what they should or shouldn’t be doing. There is also a scene when they talk about terrible mothers in law who want to be respected but don’t respect others and how unfair daughters in law are treated.
Do you belive it’s punjabi comedy? I was shocked, such a nice surprise. The movie title is Ardab Mutiyaran
Later I saw even better film – Oh My Kadavule. Imagine there is a tamil actor who looks like a love child of Madhavan and Tovino Thomas! How it’s possible nobody ever told me about him? Not only he is so cute, all the movie was the nicest rom-com ever. It has everything I like in romantic movies. You should watch it Margaret, I’m sure you will like it too. But don’t read the plot and don’t watch the trailer, because in my opinion it’s better when you don’t know what will happen (no major twists but still)

I am so happy for you!!!!!! I love it when I hit a streak of good movies. Keep reminding me about both of these and I’ll see when I have a chance to watch them. I’m going backwards on movie viewing, Dina came over on Monday and we watched Shaan, which I had already seen, instead of a new movie. But she hadn’t seen it, so I gave in.
I have to admit, I am having a hard time getting into The Great Gambler, but I also just crossed the 30 minute mark and that is often when things pick up for classic films. But I don’t think it will be one of those surprise loves for me.

You can skip punjabi movie (it’s nice but not absolutely must watch), but please watch Oh my Kadavule as soon as you have some free time. It’s so cute and swet and we need such movies now when we are in isolation. And how you can say no to Maddy/Tovino son being sad and in love in the rain? You can’t! (Man I realized that the writer of the movie must have read my comments here – the look of the actor, black shirts he wears in the rain, long gazes, Kerala sceneries, Sid Sriram songs.I don’t know if there is something they haven’t included)

Purely coincidentally, I also found Maisamma, another Telugu movie starring Mumaith Khan as a tough police officer, which might also fit into your “bad girls” theme. I haven’t seen it, but I remember it being reviewed very favorably on the Bollywhat forum when it was first released. And yes, it also has English subtitles.

I did not like this movie -felt like director/producer were using the craze of “item girl” Mumaith at that time. For lady police officers, it’s always the “Lady Amitabh” Vijayashanthi – none other could match.
In recent times, Jyothika did well in a movie -Naachiyar/Jhansi – an interesting movie dealing with underage rape case – Wiki: “The film tells the tale of the police working to uncover the truth after a young man is accused of sexually assaulting his minor girlfriend.”

There’s another Bad girls movie with Jyothika and Revathi as leads – “JackPot” – Recommend both movies!!

I just finished binge watching all 65 episodes of Anjaam on Netflix. It’s kind of X-Files meets any Bollywood police procedural. Parts were genuinely scary, other parts genuinely hokey.
As a reward (!) I cleaned my little Frankie the Flyer’s cage. Here is Frankie – a Southern Flying Squirrel, “gifted” me by my cat. A cat that is no longer allowed outside!

Just looked up Anjaam, not sure if I can handle a paranormal X-Files inspired mystery series. But if I ever DO decide I want to try one, this actually looks more tempting than the X-Files.

Got out of quarantine yesterday and hit the mall to do some shopping and watch 1917. Incredibly nerve wracking movie, so much so that I forgot it’s all supposed to be one continuous shot. However, the best part for me were the previews before the movie. I was just waiting for the movie when whose gigantic face should pop up but Prabhas! I was so excited! Saho is actually coming to my local theater! I know it’s not supposed to be very good, but I will be there, for Prabhas.
I told you I watched Fanney Khan, so next must be ELKDTAL, right? Hope that’s better. Also started watched Taj Mahal 1989 which is boring my face off at the moment and I’m not sure if I’ll continue.

ELKDTAL is soooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than Fanney Khan. Sonam is maybe the only weak link but, unlike Aish in FAnney Khan, everyone involved saw her limitations and worked around them.
Well, I was already not going to see 1917 and now I am REALLY not going to see 1917! But YAAAAAY for Saaho! If you have to see it, big screen is the way to go. also, prepare yourself for Shraddha to be terrible at everything, and for the whole plot to shift at the interval in a way which makes the first half not actually matter that much.

Basically, don’t give yourself a headache trying to follow everything in the first half, because it all changes in the second.

Going to bed early these days and not watching much. I did run out and buy the new Hillary Mantel, but saving it until I finish a novel I picked up at the bookstore called America Is Not the Heart by Elaine Castillo. I liked the premise of a young woman coming from the Phillipines to stay with an aunt and uncle who have lived in California for a few decades, and spending time with her young cousin who is growing up American. It’s turned out to be a bit darker than I expected (reasons the protagonist left the Philippines have to do with political repression and clearly something bad happened to her that hasn’t been revealed yet), but it’s good and the family dynamics are as complicated as I’d hoped.
Curious what songs you bust out in times like these? Finding myself listening to Yeh Ishq Hai over and over. I think it’s the bass beat, just short circuits all the anxiousness and cheers me up.

I’m less about anxious right now than I am “keeping energy up in solitude”, so I am all about peppy happy songs. Been hitting the really better than you remember Pyaar Impossible soundtrack a lot.
Back in college, for studying, I actually had a playlist called “soothing songs”. I don’t remember everything on it, but I know “Nahin Samne” from Taal was there and also Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Ka from Sarfarosh.

I rewatched parts of Garam Masala on youtube and if anyone wants a funny sort of film then its a good one to watch. Normally I’m not into Akshay Kumar films or comedic films but there’s something I really like about this one. It’s just silly and lighthearted and Akshay Kumar and John Abraham and Paresh Rawal have all done a really good job.

My library’s now about to close for a week, so I just checked out the entire Ember in the Ashes series, and now i’m hearing lots of good things about it and I’m very excited to start it.
I also started Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, and it’s kind of crazy and also kind of sexist, but tbh, it’s the absolutely dumb massy type of movie I need right now.
