Watch Street Dancer 3D With Us Here! Starting at 3pm Chicago Time!

Yaaaaay, Street Dancer 3D!!!! The movie I left work early to see opening day and regret NOTHING. It is everything I could want from a dance themed story of diaspora identity struggle. Okay, not everything, there could be a little more romance.

Crippling dance battle injuries! Dramatic bad one liner declarations! Body make-up! Shirtless dance of torment! Really, not to be missed.

You can watch it on Prime, and probably other places too. Hit “play” at 3pm Chicago time and join me here.

  1. British! Take the most talented folks and convert them to Britishness! It’s Macaulayism, but in a dance film! This movie should totally be shown in history classes.

    • I think it’s more “wealthy privilged documented immigrants, be aware of and care for your less privilaged brothers”. There’s a little thing over the end credits, it’s a real problem in England for exactly the reasons the film describes.

  2. Sorry, but if Muqabla isn’t your favorite from the movie, you’re wrong. I also lost my mind when it started in theaters. Can you believe my dad was ASLEEP during this???

  3. These dialogues they keep repeating aren’t even that good. “This will be fun” is just a common phrase, not anything memorable.

      • Now I’m wondering if this was one of the last scenes they filmed and his blond tips had grown so far out that even the hair people realized they looked terrible and just dyed them blue to look more natural but still cool and street dancer-y.

  4. This is my favorite exchange fo the movie!!!! It’s SO DEEP!!!!! “We dance to express, you dance to impress”. also, how I feel about my blog versus Film Companion.

  5. See what I mean about Aparshakti feeling like he is doing a spoof of a pitiful poor person? Somehow it just makes me giggle and I know it shouldn’t.

Also making me giggle, Varun’s hat, but that is a completely reasonable reaction.

  6. Is this the same space the DAnce Battle is held in later? Or some other falling apart cathedral? How many are there in London???

  7. I think if the cut Kesh was going to be such a big thing, they probably shouldn’t have given Aparshakti such a transparently expensive and emo haircut. With shaved sides even???

  8. Does Varun have pastel rainbow tips now? Or are they just silver? Either way, no, who was responsible for his hair, I have a lot of questions.

  9. And now his hair is white again!!!!! Oh oh, is it because he is part of the white group? And when he was part of the desis, it had brown highlights?

  10. See, it was this part. Four Varuns appear and stagger-dance while one sits and wallows in self pity. This is when I couldn’t stop laughing and also when I stopped taking this movie seriously.

    • Up until now you were still taking it seriously???? I lost it at the “Tragic dance battle injury”, which is of course the OPENING OF THE FILM

      • Dang it, “taking it seriously” was the wrong phrase. I think it was more “gave up” or “stopped caring”. I was already horribly bored by this point, and Dua Karo kind of sealed it.
