So excited for a DDLJ watchalong! I will be very superficial and dumb I suspect, far less “let’s consider the deconstruction of the typical Hindi film hero” and far more “his DIMPLES!!!!”
DDLJ! It’s on Prime, it’s on googleplay, it’s on youtube, it’s in your heart! At 10am, press play and join us. Or if you show up late, just go to whatever minute after 10am Chicago time it is. Does that make sense? I’m on a lot of medication right now.
Kajol is so naive, thinking she can own her feelings and be happy in love and it will all work out. Farida is already thinking “doom DOOM”

In Nameste London, at this point the heroine called her lawyer friend and confirmed that, at age 18 and as a British citizen, she didn’t have to do anything her father siad. But Kajol’s not like that.

I hated that movie.

Oh yeah, the ending was messed up. But I love the bit where the heroine just says “I’m a British citizen, you can’t order me around”

I love the first half of the movie, but not the second half. Yet it seems to me the world disagrees with me.

Anupam is so good in this scene! Being effortlessly wise and fatherly and loving, without needing to come over the wise authoritarian. This is being a father without ruling by fear.

There was a little bit of dialogue here originally, but it works so much better just with the wordless embrace and song, right?

I DON’T KNOW! This song is weird!!!!! And it’s not raining, can you have sex when it isn’t raining?

Exactly. But we also know from the Diljit and Badshah episode that field sex is not advisable. But then again Kajol and SRK were brough up in England and don’t know that yet.

This confused me the first time I watched it, and I am still confuse. Shared hallucination? Vision of the future? Parelal universe where they had sex the whole trip? What is happening here?

This sequence is a bit silly. But we had so much sturm and drang before now, I kind of enjoy this breif break into cartoonishness.

Also, don’t make me live in the country where the only thing to do is go out into the forest and get drunk ever night.

Then you wouldn’t enjoy Finland, we have quite a hefty drinking culture (personally I drink very rarely) and a lot of space to do it in, including forests. Summers are WILD!

Doesn’t Finland have the largest percentage of heavy metal bands to population?
LikeLike
Yes, while all other Nordic countries are doing “Elsa’s Let it Go” we are ALL hard heavy metal. Heck, Lordi won us the Eurovision in 2006 with a heavy metal song! So yes, it’s big here. Also for older people, tango is a big thing here as well – must be because it sounds similar to some of out folk songs – and we have competitions for the singing King and Queen of Tango-music every year as well. 🙂

I had friends who grew up in America in similar places, and the big thing to do was drive to the nearest mall and sit in the truck in the parking lot and drink. Not even go in, just sitting in the parking lot after it was closed was exciting.
