Sorry sorry, forgot to put up this post until the last minute! Not to worry, it is here now.

I like this UTV logo so much! And then the changed to the stupid weird abstract dancers thing. This is one of my strongest held opinions, that the finger paint was better than the dancers, and I almost never get to air it.

I’m also here because I unexpectedly have time and have never seen this movie! It can convince me to maybe finish it in a week when the silent film festival is over!

I already love this movie. Yes! He married a woman from that family and she was the mother of his heir, but all the rest of it is made-up! Live with and learn to love the uncertainty!

You got that? Jodha’s best friend is her male cousin, the prince? But when his Dad dies, Jodha’s father steals the kingdom from her nephew, cousing the poor little boy to be confused and unhappy? Like Hamlet, but in a desert

The helmet doesn’t even fit him! Let the little boy be a little boy!

If I were in a 1600s Indian army, I would want to be one of the elephant people, or else an archer. Definitely not one of the runny swords people. I think about it every time I watch this scene.

No CGI. Probably one of the last films to do a battle scene entirely analog, but isn’t it amazing?

It’s nice, but not enough to make me care about crowd fight scenes.

Honestly this battle seen made me sit up and pay attention. I was wowed by the beauty. Jodha Akbar may have been one of the first Indian films I saw.

Yes!! There’s just something that just looks better when it is a real thing to look at, because no matter how good CGI is getting you can tell…

Some of the special effects make up is just brutal in this first battle scene, I alllmost noped out of it when I started this movie the first time because I didn’t want to watch a blood-bath movie that day.

I just opened up Wikipedia. He was 14, and this whole thing is super accurate. There was a whole battle over his inheritance, his Dad’s general fought this big battle on his behalf, and after words had him declared emporer.

Question: would you rather be the messenger who has to bring this declaration to enemy territory, or a runny sword guy in the army? I think I might rather be a runny sword guy.

This is one of the all time greatest hero introduction scenes. Putting on his physical armor, and also putting on his mental armor around that little 14 year old inside.

The movie is “Jodha-Akbar”, but really it is “Akbar continuing to grow as a person and Jodha helps him”

It’s a good title, I think we should get in touch with the director and ask him–nicely!–to change it

I appreciate that we get to see Hrithik’s pretty pretty face, but that is really not the best helmet design.

yeah that helmet is going to go right through his pretty nose the first time he gets bopped on the head’

That one guy in the back has one that has a Hannibal Lecter style mouthpiece to it, I refuse to believe that is a historical design

And this ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!! He fired the general by saying “why don’t you go to Mecca? With a bunch of bodyguards I will provide for you just to make sure you actually go there?”

That is so BADASS!! And also funny.

Didn’t that general die? And then it became like a defacto death sentence after that?

Yeah, but Akbar’s hands were clean, he died very far away by some random allies kind of thing. Akbar was as smart as he was noble.

My sister, after reading up on Akbar was like “You could try your luck and lie to him about messages & stuff probably, but if he ever found out about it that was it for your career.”

HA! Yes!!!! And it seems like he always found out, I mean, dying in bed of old age is pretty impressive.

Something I’ve grown to appreciate about this movie is how many historically accurate hats they make all the men wear–and not just the same hat made again and again and again, but different hats, in different colors, with different decorations. Like, you will wear the stupid hat and you will like it! Double bonus: Hrithik ALSO has to wear the stupid hats. (although he is someone who will wear ANY costume–evidence: Krrish. And Krrish. And Krrish)

Am I the only one who remembers Aish was in a Hollywood movie just before this loosely based on King Arthur and co-starring Colin Firth? Anyway, pretty sure that’s where she learned a lot of the stunt fighting.

?? I thought that there was one with Kiera Knightly & Colin Farrell? But Hollywood is always making two movies that are almost the same and betting on which will win when they’re released within 3 months of each other.

Yep, exactly! This one was “The Last Legion” an dthe promotion materials had Aish with sword heavily featured.

So you get this? The Jodha’s Dad stole her cousin’s inheritance, and now isn’t even naming him as his heir. And we never get an explanation of it either, her Dad’s just being a jerk and holding on to power.
LikeLike
I never understood any of that either, because it seemed so obvious that Sujamal was under the impression that he ought to have inherited, and Jodha’s brother is like “I legit should be the heir, no doubt,” during this scene, like—?

Also, needless to say, historically accurate. Akbar liked to tame wild elephants in his down time, for fun and relaxation.
