Saturday WatchAlong! CHENNAI EXPRESS! JOY!!!! Starting at 7:30am Chicago Time

Happy Happy Saturday! And SRK day!!! What a wonderful start to the day/weekend, spending the morning with SRK.

I swear I won’t oversleep this week! So at 7:30am Chicago time, I will put up an “And PLAY!” comment and we will go from there. Super fun!

Reminder, Chennai Express is off Netflix and Prime right now, so you will have to dig out a DVD or else rent it on youtube (link below).

    • YES!!!! And one of the reviewers mentioned (and this is totally true), that you don’t even notice it because Dips is more of the hero of the film than Shahrukh so her name being first just feels normal.

  1. STUPID UTV DANCERS!!!! They deserve to have been taken over by Disney and then bankrupted by Fitoor and Jagga JAsoos because I HATE this logo video!!!!

  2. The only person I would rather marry than the owner of a sweet shop is the owner of a DVD store. But now DVDs are dead, so short of the CEO of Netflix, sweet shop is my top choice!!!!

  3. I like how the slight spoof of classic romance/family films is right there at the start!!!! Dead grandfather, funeral scene, all played for laughs.

  4. I’ve thought about this deeply, and I think I would want to be all in one place instead of scattered here and there and everywhere. I just want to settle. I have a friend whose mother is thinking about asking to be scattered in all kinds of places all over the world, so then her kids get a nice vacation out of it.

  5. Is it time to talk about Shahrukh’s freakishly black hair that is clearly not his natural color because it is no one’s natural color?

  6. This movie is super nostalgic for me because it was the first Bollywood movie I ever saw. All this DDLj stuff obviously went over my head, but I’m glad I eventually got into it so I can appreciate the references after multiple rewatches.

  7. I just assume this is what all Desi guys are saying about me when I come to the movie theater and the look and then talk in non-English languages. Desi guys are sometimes gross.

  8. I just showed a Shahrukh movie to someone for the first time and she was trying to figure out when it was him singing and when it was dubbed. And then there was a scene where he actually used his own voice to sing and she went “oh YEAH. Yeah, he definitely should not to his own singing”. Don’t know what made me think of that just now 🙂

  9. I don’t know why, but I think on this watch the thugs are going to be my favorite cahracters. They are so nice! And enthusiastic about playing Antakshri!!!!

  10. Also real, also horrible, that guy who is super excited about his phone. Such boring party conversations I have been trapped in!!!!

  11. Also, I think Shahrukh’s character would have been a better person if he had more big scary thugs following him around his whole life and cutting him down to size.

  12. This was one of the first SRK movies I watched, but now that I’ve seen almost all of them, I’m struck by how rarely I’ve seen him do such obvious comedy.

  13. This is a good joke, and also the kind of joke I can picture little kids really really getting into and repeating to each other. Right? The “you have made me SO ANGRY…..I will sit down”. It just begs for 8 year old sto repeat it to each other and giggle.

  14. Deepika’s choli is gorgeous, and also very wide-necked which looks great on her. But on me it would mean the shoulders kept slipping off. Do you think she has them glued or taped? Or is it just that perfectly fitted?

    • That’s INSANE. Because I saw it the last time in theaters in the middle of a massive snow storm. Which means it ran in theaters for at least 3 months, CRAZY!!!!

    • I think there is a lot of careful blocking going on. Unlike some of his other co-stars I never actually realized Dips was taller than him in their films.

    • This is especially funny, because Deepika and the thugs keep referring to SRK with the female pronoun when they speak to him. It could be because they don’t speak Hindi very well but also because SRK is definitely the heroine in this movie.

  15. I have DREAMED of doing this!!!!! The train used to go right by my house, and then it would keep going to the station and I would have to take another 20 minutes getting back home. If it just stopped for a second and let me out, I could have been right there!!!!
