Friday WatchAlong: Ghungroo! 4pm Chicago Time (AN HOUR LATER THAN USUAL)

First, NOTE THE TIME CHANGE!!!! 4pm!!!!! I had a last minute chance to get together with a friend this afternoon and I couldn’t pass it up. So I moved watchalong an hour. If I run even longer than that (stuck in traffic, whatever), just wait for me to say “And PLAY”.

Ghungroo!!!! Shashi!!!! And period costumes! And Waheedaji!!!! And Smita Patil!!!! And it’s on einthusan.

At 4pm (or a little later if I am running late), I will put up an “And PLAY” comment. And then we play! And then we are happy!

  1. Smita Patil and Jaya Badhuri were my mom’s favorite actresses and I think it is partially because she looked like a mix between them when she was young.

  2. Being practical here, I am sure Waheeda would give her some nice jewels, enough that she could start her own brothel and be self-employed. She seems like she would be very encouraging and helpful, so long as Smita is content to stay a dancing girl.

    • It’s because Shashi is not royalty and yet the queen gives him so much importance. Ranjit, I think, is related to either the queen or the former king. So he is trying to consolidate his power.

  3. I love Suresh so much here! I know Smita will end up with Shashi but I like her with Suresh too! He is defended her and is now supporting her without any anterior motive!

    • It’s basically a public service announcement!

But it is also making me want to pour myself a glass of wine just to be defiant and well because wine is delicious!

    • Have you seen “Suhaag”? Another Shashi movie. It includes what I have read described as “a brief Alcoholics Anonymous course, as danced by Rekha.” Sadly, I can’t remember the name of the song.

      • Ha! Yes, the song is Aaj Intihaan Hai Tera, Aaj Intihaan hai.

That movie’s take on how Amitabh became dependent on alcohol makes a little bit more sense to me since he is forced to drink it from a very young age.

  4. I’m looking at the staircases in the palaces now and thinking of BAD STAIRS! Especially after that Madhuri/Salman movie we watched.
