Challenge! Can You Think of a 100% Happy, No Sad Bits At All, Indian Movie?

I have a friend who had a really sucky week so, for Friend Movie Night this week, I want to pick something that has really truly NOTHING sad in it. And it’s HARD!!!

For example, I was thinking of Dabangg. And then I remembered that Dabangg has the sad bits around Dimple Kapadia and Salman’s mother issues. So, too sad!!!!

Along those same lines, Om Shanti Om has the pre-interval sequence, Mujshe Dosti Karoge has Kareena’s Dad, etc. etc.

The only movies I have been able to come up with that are 100% silly no sadness are Chennai Express

And Bang Bang

Can you think of any others?

  1. Growing up watching Tamil movies, any Malayalam movie that came to our shores had a twist sad ending

For ex: when I recently saw the subbed original version of Nadodi Kattu, it came across as a melancholic (& mature) compared to the slapstick laugh a minute tamil version

Long story short, I’d settle for any movie with a predictable happy ending such as Prasanna-Laila starrer Kanda Naal Muthal

You know that if it is Laila then it has to be a sweet ending & its doubly sweet.

  2. If you are up for a Telugu movie – Jathiratnalu on Amazon. There are 0 sad bits and it is really silly. Even Ami Tumi but I dont think there is a subtitled version.

      • Oooh! I just thought of two more. Both are by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Jhooti (Rekha/Raj Babbar) and Jhoot Bole Kauwa Kaate (Anil/Juhi). Both movies are happy and funny with no sad parts!

          • It’s so fun and has such great songs! I might need to do the same!

Also, if you liked the old Khubsoorat with Rekha, I highly recommend Jhooti. So so fun! This was a great exercise to remind me of some movies that I had not thought of for a while.

          • Ooh thanks! I love most of the movies here, so will check out Jhooti. And wholeheartedly agree about Jhoot Bole, such a delightful movie, I suspect not many know about it, I think most people here will like it.

Also, I hope everything is well with your family in the current ongoing crisis. I am just numb for words!

          • Thank you, Kainaat. It has been overwhelming and just like everyone else, every day we are holding our breath to make sure there is no more bad news. I hope everything it okay with your family as well.

This is why we need happy movie distractions! I have been alternating between Hrishikesh Mukherjee movies and 90s Akshay, Ajay, and Saif action movies.
