Sunday WatchAlong: Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna! 10am Chicago Time! Hate or Love Watch, as You Prefer!

Happy Sunday!!!! Our first Sunday watchalong in a while. In honor of Rachel’s birthday. And in honor of me FINALLY getting someone to watch Kabhi Alvida na Kehna with me.

It’s on youtube, it’s on googleplay, it’s on Netflix, and it’s probably on einthusan!!!! You have no reason not to watch it! Except for maybe that you don’t enjoy it! In which case you can watch it and hate on it! So, HA! Still no excuse!

At 10am Chicago time I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will keep going from there!

  1. You know, it is possible to have a caregiver father and wage earner mother without the whole family falling apart. Maybe Karan doesn’t know that?

  2. And once again, as uncomfortable as it was, the alst scene and this scene are well done and not ridiculous. I feel so bad for both Abhishek and Rani.

  3. Shah Rukh needs to much therapy to work on himself. Does he really think Rani (or anyone else) is going to solve his problems? Is Rani going to make him a better man, husband, or father?

  4. I feel like they really need a therapist who can make Abhishek understand that Rani wants a baby, and make Rani understand that Abhishek needs sex. Some sort of sex/adoption counselor.

  5. While Abhishek was out of line with the child thing, the fact that Rani only focuses on that annoys me. She never takes any responsibility in this failing marriage.

  6. Is it at all possible Karan made the cheated on spouses far more sympathetic than the cheaters on purpose? Or did he just not see what he was doing?

    • I think he didn’t see what was happening. I think this movie came from a deeply wounded place and he can see the cheating and being unhappy and romanticizes that because that is what he can relate to.

      • I was also thinking, in terms of stories he would have heard among friends, he would be far more likely to have folks talk to him about feeling unloved and distant from their spouse, than a passionate secret affair. So he has a really firm grasp of the reality of Preity and Abhishek’s feelings, but maybe not so much SRK and Rani just because people are less likely to talk about it.

  7. Another great dialogue scene! Almost makes me sympathize with them, if I hadn’t just seen how miserable their spouses are.

  8. And then he’s hit by a train and DIES! And Preity and Abhishek meet again at the funeral!!! And Rani is inspired to finally leave Abhishek! And then he and Preity get together and he is a loving and indulgent step father to that poor little boy!

  9. I can see how this affair happens. But what bothers me is the happily ever after in the end. I would be fine if this affair was a catalyst for the divorce. And maybe they even got together for a little bit afterwards. But eventually they realized that the other person is NOT going to solve their problems and they break up.

  10. In the version of this movie where Preity and her 3 best friends deal with life and love in the city, SRK is the WORST MOST EVIL HUSBAND EVER. He only takes her out to the ballet because he is jealous of his girlfriend????
