Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me on Kirron Kher’s Birthday?

Happy Monday!!! I am still up at the lake, but now I am working. Still better to be here, I get to work while looking out on a nice sparkling blue lake and am planning to go kayaking over lunch break.

Here is where you get to ask me anything from “how did Kirron Kher and Anupum Kher meet?” to “is her hair really that long do you think or is it just a wig in movies?” Just keep swinging back to this post all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! I missed Rajkummar’s birthday yesterday, so Favorite Rajkummar movie/performance?

For me, favorite performance is Stree. Favorite movie is Ek Ladki Ko Dekha to Aisa Laga (obviously).

  1. Have you ever heard about a streaming site dedicated to marathi movies? E.g we have Aha for telugu, Neestream for malayalam, Simply South and Sunnxt for southern, even Tamil Rockers for illegal stuff, but is there something for marathi cinema? Where all those marathi movies go? I found some great trailers but can’t find a place to watch those films and I’m angry.

  2. I started watching the Flight Attendant based on your recommendation and I am likely in the minority but this show does not work for me. I know most people loved the series and it will work for anyone who enjoys a dark comedy drama mystery with a unreliable/flawed narrator. The acting is great, it explores the heroine trauma we’ll. Having said that, here is why this show does not work for me. The heroine is just so unlikable and utterly selfish with everyone around her. She keeps making one bad decision after another, uses everyone around her, and refuses to take any responsibility for her actions. She’s a terrible friend and a terrible sister. She had a tough childhood with a terrible alcoholic father. That still doesn’t excuse any of her actions as an adult. I’ll let you know if I change my mind by the end of the show.

    • This was my Mom’s reaction! Without even having seen it. “The central character is an alcoholic? Blech! Why would you want to watch that?” Not because of judgement or anything, but because addiction brings with it so much selfishness and dysfunction that she was just exhausted at the idea of spending that much time with it.

Anyway, the show is shooting for a redemption story, that she realizes her flaws and stuff. Don’t know if it will be enough for you.

Meanwhile, I have moved on to Miss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries!!! 1960s Australia, spunky young woman solves mysteries in kicky clothes.

      • I felt exactly the same about the heroine. And the ending didn’t justify her reversal and I didn’t believe it anyway.

      • I think I understand where you mother is coming from. I get that this series is showing someone with a substance use disorder and like many women, specifically, with substance use disorders, it is based on trauma. Maybe it is because of the topic and my work that I just can’t handle it as an escapist dark comedy. Alcohol use disorder is not funny. Her “wacky shenanigans” while she is drunk and making one poor decision after another is not funny. People enabling her behavior or even dismissing it as another “crazy, goofy, glamorous thing Cassie” does just frustrates me. Clearly, this show is not for me. I will finish it and again, my POV is very much in the minority and I can see how most people can really enjoy this show.

On the other hand, a movie such as Love Aaj Kal 2 that took a similar topic of trauma and mental health disorder seriously, I could enjoy and feel like it came from a place of compassion.

          • Have I mentioned that my Mom is a social worker? So her immediate reaction was “exhausting” because she had to actually work with and solve the problems of addicts and it is TIRING. And then she stopped doing that and switched to massage, much more immediate guaranteed results.

          • Yes, you had mentioned that about your mother in previous posts. And I should have clarified that that is why I related to her use of the word exhausting! Just about all the non-profit and advocacy work that I do is for and on behalf of those with substance use disorders, including convincing law enforcement to chance their policies, changing laws and regs to improve access to treatment, advocating against laws that specifically stigmatize pregnant women preventing the women from not just getting treatment for their substance use but also basic prenatal care from their OB/GYNs for fear of persecution — all of which is an uphill battle (i.e., tiring!!!)

  3. I would LOVE to find a site dedicated to ALL regional Indian films. Right now I am able to stream Hotstar (various languages and sources) Amazon (some non Hindi) and Netflix (mostly Hindi) Sometimes I can catch Malayalam, Telugu, etc on YouTube but mostly without subs. I like to watch on my big tv with roku. But so far I can’t get einthusan and when I tried to install another site that promised all of India, it f—ed up my entire system and I had to call in my 10 year old grandson to fix it.

  4. Does somebody know if Raaz Reboot is very scary? Stupid Italian Prime removed almost all indian movies and one of the few remaining is Raaz. I want to watch it but I’m afraid it’s too scary for me.

Cassie got Max run over my a car, his gf/her best friend had a day from hell because of Cassie and all Cassie can do is talk about herself!!!! Oh and she was NOT drinking so that can’t be an excuse for this. She’s just a terrible frickin person!!!!

    K. I’ll update you again with my thoughts as I hate watch this show some more. 🙂

    • Wait for it! Next episode she starts reaping what she has sewn, and the final two episodes are all redemption. I mean, it still may not be enough for you, but this is the Hitting Bottom Worst Person Ever episode.
