Happy Saturday! And Happy Jackie Birthday Week! I have been talked into doing an ACTUAL Jackie movie, not just one of his modern ones where he has a little father role and nothing else.
Dushmani! I know nothing about it! Except that it is Jackie and Sunny and from 1995. So I am expecting lots of fake blood, very little dancing, and some questionable sexual politics. WOOT! Oh, and for Jackie to show too much skin, because it’s what he does.

At 8am Chicago time, I will put up a comment on this post “And PLAY” and then we can all comment along together from there.
Those candles are super phallic, right? It’s not just me?

After backtracking, pausing, and squinting, I can confirm that the movie poster being hung during the chase sequence was “Indrajeet” (1991).

THANK YOU!!!!! This movie must have taken forever to make then if it released in 1995. Let’s watch for visible onscreen aging of actors!

So far, Sunny has been basically useless. Also, has anyone else seen Aap Mujhe Ache Lagne Lage? That is my favorite “hero in love with a gangsters daughter” movie. Partly because Hrithik is so straightforward about going after her.
LikeLike
Useless not just re: Manisha, but this poor rickshaw guy whose life he is continuing to ruin.

And no, I haven’t seen that, but I’m writing it down : )

It’s a modern one, but it’s a very throwback feel, so hopefully you still like it! Hrithik’s college band is hired to play the 9 nights of Navratri at Amisha Patel’s gangster house. So he has 9 nights to woo, win, and rescue her.

Oh, I tend to really like movies that take place over a particular time frame like that, or where somebody has to do accomplish a particular number of things.

Anupam is evil, but he has a great taste in bathrobes.

I can rationalize it as reflecting poorly on Anupam et al. for sheltering her so thoroughly rather than on Sunny for. . . presuming that she’s a vaguely normal girl, but her extremely childish bedroom makes this feel creepy.

Also Sunny looking about 40 while Manisha looks about 16.

I was thinking they just rented the top room as a dance studio. Because being gangsters didn’t make them enough money? Yeah, your argument makes more sense.

Honestly, I like yours, and it could probably be applied to a lot of movies in which backup dancers randomly spawn.

I just remember this movie had a lot of scenes straight out of Romeo and Juliet and so far I’m right. The window scene and the wedding meet cute scene are very much from Shakespeare. Many movies have the same story but it’s Shaker Kapur so he stole the scenes accurately.

He’s got his shirt open, but an undershirt under it, BUT the undershirt looks meshy so it’s honestly kind of a wash.

It’s a fun song but it needed something, like Jackie only wearing a mesh vest or getting wet or something. The hose dancing was fun though.

So I was just looking up who this dancer is (Varsha Usgoankar), but I saw something MUCH MORE IMPORTANT!!!! Neena Gupta is in the cast list!!!! so keep your eyes peeled for her, I personally am PUMPED.

She’s so good I was thinking she might be Somebody. And she is Somebody, but only in Marathi films, so that’s meaningless to me.

Yeah, I got mildly obsessed with Mahesh Kothare recently (child/teenage actor in Hindi films in the ’60s-’70s) and he’s apparently a big name in Marathi now.

Still down a casting wormhole. The dancing lady was in the TV Mahbharat, playing Uttara, Arjun’s dance student during the year he was a woman who ended up being Abhimanyu’s widow.

Talking to somebody without actually seeing their face is never a good idea in a Hindi movie. Sometimes they’re secretly dying; other times, they’re Pran in an obviously fake rubber mask.
