Sunday WatchAlong: Paagal! A Happy Telugu Rom-Com for Angie’s Belated Birthday! Starting at 11am Chicago Time!

Woot! Sunday WatchAlong!!! Not sure how many people can come this week, I may institute the “if no one is here after 15 minutes I stop” rule. But probably not, y’all always show up for me.

Paagal! It’s on Prime, it’s a cute Telugu rom-com with a happy ending, I see no downside here.

At 11am Chicago time I will put up an “And PLAY!” comment and we will all watch and comment along together from there.

    • Yes! I read people’s comments saying how illogical and stupid the movie is, but it starts with: My name’s Prem and I loved 1600 girls. Nobody never hided it’s over the top and exaggerated. What did people want?

    • Exactly! This is my biggest problem with this film. Prem should take care if the boy and help him. But it’s never mentioned or shown

  1. Awwwwww, this is such a not hateful way to deal with a woman lying to you! Every other movie he would be all angry and the movie would treat her as faithless and evil. This movie, just understands where she is coming from and why.

  2. Hmmm. The script and her friends keep treating her like she is hidious. But she is styled and shot to be really pretty, and she is also a smart non-characture person. Right?

  3. I love that the humor isn’t “two boys, yuck!” but instead that he is treating this irritated middle-aged man like a naive romantic young girl. It’s a very specific love story process that he is just not applying correctly.

  4. Actually, this whole movie is making fun of a very specific kind of romantic trope. Right? The idea of love at first sight, and that all a boy has to do is propose and it will all be perfect. It goes to the extreme in order to reveal the underlying silliness of it. This is why I love Telugu movies. They are so meta and post-modern.

  5. OMG, this is AMAZING! And again, it doesn’t feel like “yuck, two boys” but rather “these tropes are hilarious and it is obvious when we see an unexpected pairing”

  6. Murali Sharma is not my fav but I really appreciate him in this role. Maybe because it’s the first time I see him being a little in love and funny?

  7. Is the “a guy follows a bus” Scene in every telugu movie? I think yes. I personally prefer when they ride the horse, but running is not bad either

  9. Remember in Tezaab when Anil jumps off a tower for Madhuri? I did not think I would see that plot point, followed by “and now I am fine” in two different movies!!!!

  10. Just occurred to me, there could absolutely be a version of this movie where he realizes he had love from his friends all along and he just didn’t appreciate what he had. Wouldn’t that be sweet?
