Yaaaaaaaaaaaay, an American musical! So glad I get to share this one with you. And it is good for y’all to see it, because this is one of many classic American musicals that influenced both Farah Khan and Prabhudeva in their work. For real, Farah even acknowledges this one in particular as one of her hidden tributes in “Dhoom Tana”.
The Pirate!
Judy and Gene Kelly movie, totally ridiculous plot and period setting, but it works because they are both so freakishly charming and talented.

At 11am Chicago time I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and then y’all can comment along with me from there.
Got up at 4:00, went fishing, caught fish, ate fish, had nap, now semi-awake again ( ;

Yeah, I can see the other ladies and their turbans/mantillas as fitting in a “storybook Spanish colonial Caribbean” world, but this pleated plaid thing I don’t know what to do with.

I like a good location shoot as much as the next body, but I also find the hyperartificiality/constructed-ness of early sound stage sets kind of charming.

Did anyone ever wear a bonnet with grapes flowing down from it? And is the world not supposed to know that Nina is girl in Spanish and not a name?

And it’s usually something you call your own kid, almost like “hija”! Would make more sense with “muchacha” or “senorita” (forgive lack of virgulillas).

Their standards are probably pretty high here, though. . . after all, so many of these random market square ladies are not merely excellent dancers, but already happened to be wearing the right shoes!

Starched brim. When dry, it holds stiff. . . when wet, it flops. Or sugar-water, possibly, though that’s more common for thick fabrics like felt.
